A lot has changed within the New York Jets organization in the last three weeks. Head coach Robert Saleh got fired, the team’s offensive coordinator was demoted, and Aaron Rodgers re-united with Davante Adams. Despite all of these changes, the one thing that is yet to change is the team’s win record.
Despite all these shuffle-up, the New York Jets have lost their last two outings. While it is not surprising to see this because the team will need some time to get adjusted to all the changes and play up to their potential, one analyst believes Aaron Rodgers is to blame for the team’s disappointing season. Chris Canty went after the four-time NFL MVP on the ESPN’s UnSportsmanlike Radio.
The former New York Giants defensive lineman is certain that Aaron Rodgers’ toxicity has crept into the Jets organization. He went on to call Rodgers the ‘cancer’ that is holding back the team.
Canty put the onus of the team’s struggles on Rodgers. Canty’s take stems from the fact that the Jets have had to make significant accommodations for the quarterback to come onboard.
Aaron Rodgers has had a rough time playing for the New York Jets
The team obliged on each of these demands and yet the quarterback is yet to show results. However, to call him toxic and outright deem him a ‘cancer’ is going overboard.
If that were to be the case, then his teammates would throw him under the bus after Robert Saleh was let go, which did not happen. Aaron Rodgers is respected and loved by his teammates in the locker room, which is why he won the Best Teammate award—an award that is decided on the basis of votes by players within the organization.
The New York Jets have a lot of problems and Aaron Rodgers is one of them. The quarterback has to play behind a struggling offensive line. He took 13 sacks in the first five games ranking him the 11th most sacked QB in the league.
If he does not have enough time to get rid of the ball, how can he be expected to make the right play? His numbers are not that bad in reality.

In Aaron Rodgers’ final season with the Packers, the quarterback had 1,157 yards through five games and eight touchdowns. In the same number of games this season, he has 1,093 yards and seven touchdowns. A few yards and one touchdown short, but the stats are or more or less the same.
So, it would not be fair to call him a ‘cancer’ as Canty did. Besides, Aaron Rodgers is the reason Davante Adams chose to join the Jets. The season is not yet over for the team but each game of the final 10 weeks of the 2024 NFL season are extremely important for them.
