New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers had a playful take after their week 2, and season’s first win against the Tennessee Titans, claiming it was his second victory in Green and White, not his first. The four-time NFL MVP was referring to more than just the game.
The 40-year-old, entering his 20th year in the league, is returning after a season-ending injury in the Week 1 game against the Buffalo Bills last year. He suffered an Achilles tear during a sack by Bills defensive end Leonard Floyd. Despite his attempts to return, he didn’t, as the Jets failed to make a place in the postseason.
Coming back to play in 2024, Aaron Rodgers and his team were met with the mighty San Francisco 49ers in Week 1. The Niners tore apart the Jets, with a 32-19 win as the Robert Saleh defense crumbled. However, they have changed the game around pretty quickly against the Titans.
In the Nissan Stadium in Nashville, the Jets defeated the Titans 24-17 with Rodgers completing 18 out of 30 passes for 176 yards with two touchdowns. The Jets’ quarterback, however, doesn’t consider this his first victory with the team.
Technically, my second. We all know that somehow the first one counts.. yeah feels great.Aaron Rodgers said in post-game interview.
In 2023, despite Rodgers skimping off-field just four snaps into the game the team registered a W. Zach Wilson took over for the Jets and they trumped the Bills in the overtime 22-16 to secure a Week 1 game win. While the season was abysmal, Rodgers wasn’t completely wrong in claiming that he had already won a game as a Jet.
Aaron Rodgers delivered a game-winning drive for the Jets
The initial minutes or even the first half wasn’t a pretty picture for the New York Jets. They were trailing behind by 7-10 two quarters into the game. Furthermore, they lost key players CJ Mosley and Jermaine Johnson to injuries. Despite all this, Rodgers kept his calm and collected attitude intact.
With 4:31 minutes left on the clock, Rodgers kicked off a seven-play drive, breaking the 17-17 tie to a 24-17 win. Rodgers received the ball and passed it to rookie Braelon Allen, who ran 20 yards into the endzone, ascertaining the Jets’ victory. Rodgers, the NFL’s oldest active player, connected with one of the youngest players quite fruitfully on Sunday for two touchdowns.
The Jets also benefitted with their defense returning to a better position. After the Jets took the lead late in the game, there was a scoring play for the home team. Will McDonald IV took out his third sack of the day with 23 seconds left on the third down.
The 20-year-old Allen also became the youngest player in almost a century to score a touchdown from a scrimmage. Earlier, Breece Hall also pointed out Allen’s capabilities and advised them to allow his more playing time. Like the latest game, the Jets could take advantage of Rodgers-Allen fluidity as they go against the New England Patriots in Week 3.
