Fans witnessed a rusty Aaron Rodgers on the opening day of the Pittsburgh Steelers’ training camp at St. Vincent College. It was Rodgers’ first time facing the Pittsburgh Steelers defense, often regarded as among the best in the NFL.
Head coach Mike Tomlin divided players into two teams of 11 and played a practice match to start off their 2025 camp. Rodgers naturally ended up taking the most snaps as the main quarterback.
On his very first snap, Rodgers dropped back and threw the ball to his new wide receiver partner, DK Metcalf. Right before the ball landed in Metcalf’s gloves, All-Pro linebacker Patrick Queen snagged it, interception.

A jubilant Queen attempted to return the ball for a pick-6 but was quickly closed down. His play earned a round of applause from both teammates and the crowd. Jalen Ramsey, who recently joined the Steelers after spending a few seasons in Miami, was pumped seeing Queen’s brilliance in action.
It wasn’t the best start to camp for Rodgers. However, the 41-year-old has thrown plenty of interceptions during his 20-year career. He will hardly lose any sleep over a training camp INT.
Tomlin acknowledged that his team is a work in progress, with all the new signings still trying to plant their feet.
You know, when in Rome, he’s going to be Roman. It’s our job to teach him how we do things. Not only him, but also guys like Jalen Ramsey and others.

Aaron Rodgers spoke about the Steelers’ Super Bowl chances
Rodgers aligned himself with the pace of his teammates quickly after the initial hiccup and looked like his old self once more. So, Steelers fans can breathe a bit easier.

During the post-camp presser, reporters flocked around Aaron Rodgers for a Q&A session. Everyone wanted to know whether the Steelers are Super Bowl contenders.
I think most of the 32 teams will probably say something to do with that accord this time of the year. But I think there are only 6 to 8 that have a legitimate chance. Sometimes it’s 10 to 12; there’s teams that will surprise you but I would say on paper, we are probably one of those 10 to 12.

It’s a good thing that Tomlin put Rodgers and Metcalf as suite buddies for the remainder of the camp. This will help the two connect better, on and off the field.
Tomlin’s vision did not include a short-term success with Rodgers. He signed the 4x league MVP to develop rookie Will Howard. The college football champion is expected to sit back and learn from his experienced predecessor.
You see a guy that’s bought in. He’s sitting around, and he’s taking time to sit with his teammates and talk with us—and guys like me—and he just looks happy. He’s got a smile on his face, and he’s just been great, man.

Rodgers came to Pittsburgh to end his career on a high note. The Steelers give him the best chance of winning another Super Bowl ring. His previous club promised similar dreams. However, their relationship broke down, and he was cut off.
For Tomlin’s sake, the Rodgers gamble has to work out, or he will end up proving former player Ryan Clark correct. A deep playoff run is the best answer, but the best-case scenario is a Super Bowl victory.
