Aaron Rodgers and Jaylen Warren weren’t quite on the same page during one play in their Week 7 TNF game against the Cincinnati Bengals. The veteran quarterback let his Pittsburgh Steelers know in a very animated way.

The Steelers led the Bengals by seven points. In the following drive, Cincy punted the ball back to the visitors after failing to make their chances count.

On the 2nd and 4th from inside his own half, Rodgers snapped the ball and tossed it to Warren. Initially, it appeared to be a straightforward run play, but Warren unexpectedly turned around and skillfully flicked the ball back to Rodgers.

Rodgers received the ball but had to quickly get rid of it to avoid giving up a sack. The play resulted in a third down.

Replays showed Rodgers yelling at Warren, “What are you doing??… [It was] not a flea flicker.”

Clearly, there was a miscommunication between the two Steelers players. The drive concluded with a punt.

Aaron Rodgers leaps ahead of Ben Roethlisberger in passing yards

Rodgers, 41, was projected to struggle as the Steelers’ quarterback. However, the former NFL and Super Bowl MVP won four games in his first five starts for the AFC North side before facing the Bengals at Paycor Stadium.

His arrowed pass to tight end Jonnu Smith gave the Steelers the lead before he threw two interceptions in the second quarter to Jordan Battle and DJ Turner.

Pittsburgh went into the halftime break trailing by seven points. Despite that, Rodgers had thrown 118 yards. As a result, he overtook former Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger (64,088 career passing yards) in overall passing yards. He is currently fifth on the list behind Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Peyton Manning, and Brett Favre.

Most of Rodgers’ yards came while playing for the Green Bay Packers. At the time of his departure from Wisconsin, Rodgers had completed 59,055 passing yards, second only to Favre (61,655) for the most in franchise history.

After leaving the Packers, Rodgers spent two years with the New York Jets. His first year ended prematurely after suffering a torn ACL minutes into his first game. The second season wasn’t anything to write home about either. Despite playing the entire year, the Jets finished 5-12, which resulted in Rodgers being cut from the team.

Then Pittsburgh came calling. Rodgers agreed to a one-year deal and won four out of his first five games as the starter, throwing 1,021 passing yards and 10 touchdowns.

The Steelers lose a nail-biter

Mike Tomlin’s Steelers stepped into Cincy as the overwhelming favorites against a Bengals team with Joe Flacco as the starter. Flacco had a chip on his shoulder because he was winless against Rodgers in three previous meetings.

The 40-year-old came out on top. He threw 31 completions for 342 yards and 3 touchdowns on Thursday. Wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase caught 16 passes on 23 targets for 161 yards and 1 touchdown, while Tee Higgins had 6 for 96 and one score.

Aaron Rodgers finished the game with 23 completions from 34 attempts for 249 yards, 4 passing touchdowns, and 2 interceptions. Warren had 127 yards on 16 carries, while Pat Freiermuth caught 5 catches for 111 yards and scored 2 touchdowns (which included a 68-yard score).

The Steelers were presented with one final chance after the Bengals’ kicker Evan McPherson’s 36-yard field goal completion to give Cincinnati a slender two-point lead. Rodgers lined up a 70-yard Hail Mary pass, but the Bengals’ defense stood firm to secure a 31-33 win.

The result improved the Bengals’ record to 3-4, while the Steelers are 4-2.
