Aaron Rodgers to the Pittsburgh Steelers is a nearly done deal. The veteran quarterback, who has remained a free agent for weeks now, is in no rush to sign with his next team. Rodgers was rumored to have been pursued by the New York Giants and the Minnesota Vikings, but it was the Pittsburgh Steelers that truly went after him.
The team began to make moves before Aaron Rodgers visited their facility. The addition of DK Metcalf to bolster their offense and the trade of Justin Fields to the New York Jets and Russell Wilson to the Giants seemed to be an indirect message by the Steelers to Aaron Rodgers, signaling him toward them. Head Coach Mike Tomlin is doing everything in his power to have the four-time MVP start at quarterback next season.
The Steelers’ plan seems to be working because Aaron Rodgers met up with DK Metcalf to train together and have a throwing session. There is a very good chance that Pittsburgh will have a new QB-WR duo next season. As per NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, the two met one another over the weekend. This is likely to have been the day that Rodgers made up his mind about the prospect of being Mike Tomlin’s quarterback.
Rodgers continues to ponder over the Steelers’ offer. It is either that or retirement for him. Alternatively, the veteran may consider taking one year off and possibly returning for the 2026-27 season. For now, Aaron Rodgers is waiting and watching as teams across the league continue to actively make changes and position themselves well ahead of the draft.
If the season were to begin next week, then Pittsburgh would be left with Mason Rudolph as their starting quarterback. The team has effectively emptied its quarterback room which suggests that they hope to get Aaron Rodgers and may consider choosing a quarterback in the draft to learn from the future Hall of Famer and become their next franchise QB.
Aaron Rodgers had a fruitful visit to the Steelers’ facility last week
The quarterback prefers to let an aura build up around his next move. After his departure from Green Bay, Rodgers did not immediately sign with the New York Jets. He waited, allowing rumors to swirl and a hype to build up. At one point, everyone knew he was headed to the Big Apple, but Rodgers opted to make it official a month after the rumors confirming him as the next Jets’ QB had broken out.

It would be fair to assume that Rodgers is using a similar strategy this time around, too. The quarterback had visited the Pittsburgh Steelers and met with Mike Tomlin last week. His visit lasted for 6 hours, which was a positive sign and an indication that he sees himself wearing the black and yellow jersey.

Mike Tomlin has all but confirmed that the Pittsburgh Steelers are at Rodgers’ grace if he chooses to sign with another team or retire. The head coach indicated that Pittsburgh would have no Plan B if Aaron Rodgers had not signed with them. In that situation, the Steelers would be confident in relying on Mason Rudolph. The chips all lie in Rodgers’ corner now. Will he choose to go all-in and join one of the most successful coaches in NFL history, or will he fold? Only time will tell.
