After a five-game losing streak, the New York Jets finally had their comeback against the top-ranked Houston Texans in the AFC South. While they still remain far from qualifying for the playoffs, this Thursday Night Football victory has ignited a spark of hope among their fans.

But this wasn’t just a Green Gang comeback. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who has remained under scrutiny due to his age since the beginning of this season, gave his best performance against a Baker Mayfield-led offense. He completed the game with 211 yards and three touchdowns.

When asked about his performance in the 21-13 victory, the veteran quarterback credited his improved health conditions while admitting that he hasn’t been in his best physical game since Week 4 of this season. During his weekly appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, the four-time NFL MVP revealed that he has been struggling with an injury he sustained against the Denver Broncos, leading to five consecutive losses

Body feels pretty good, yeah, I’m not going to do much. But I might venture out to the city one of these nights, but I’ll be relaxed, taking care of my body and getting ready to hopefully feel 100% for next week, because I haven’t really been 100% since Week 4, so be nice to little bit better.

Aaron Rodgers replied

It’s high time for the Jets to elevate their game and Rodgers’ health plays a vital role in that. Individually, the signal-caller has improved to 2,107 yards, 15 touchdowns, and seven interceptions in eight games this season.

Shawne Merriman urges Aaron Rodgers to consider retirement

New York was not favored for victory while heading for their Week 9 game against the Texans, sitting top in the AFC South at 6-2. But both the defense and offense came through giving an exceptional performance and clincing a dominating 21-13 win.

However, the 41-year-old quarterback was advised for retirement before the game by a fellow draft pick for the 2005 Class. Former NFL All-Pro linebacker Shawne Merriman had advised Rodgers to hang his cleats if he wishes to preserve his legacy of “one of the best quarterbacks” of his era, via Mirror U.S. Sports

Merriman believes Rodgers has accomplished enough in his two-decade NFL, boasting four NFL MVP honors, ten Pro Bowl selections, four All-Pro honors, and a Super Bowl ring. He argues that the veteran quarterback should not have to struggle as he has been for the past two seasons to validate his standing in the league.
