After letting go of Daniel Jones, many expected the New York Giants to set their eyes on a young talent, especially since they have the No. 2 draft pick, thanks to the 3-14 season. However, General Manager Joe Schoen once again shocked the football community with his decision to acquire a veteran quarterback, even though they have their eyes set on a talented quarterback.
With only having Tommy DeVito in the quarterback room, the Giants have come to realize that drafting a young standout quarterback may not bring the stability they crave. Instead, they need to balance the quarterback room by adding a veteran talent since they seek to acquire multiple quarterbacks.
Even if you get a young quarterback, you’d like to have a vet in the room with them to show them the ropes and how to be a pro…We’re going to look under every rock to find the best prospect for us going into the ’25 season.

Interestingly, Matthew Stafford’s name had been associated with the Giants for some time until GM Schoen gave rest to it, stating, “That’s a question for the Rams,” when asked about the veteran quarterback’s trade news. This statement has come rather abruptly for the fans, given that the Giants were reportedly said to be interested in Stafford until they were not.
This leaves Aaron Rodgers, recently released by the New York Jets following two disastrous seasons, as another prominent veteran quarterback name in the free agency market for the Giants to consider. But with concerns surrounding Rodgers’ off-field distractions and treatment of his teammates, he isn’t considered to be among the veterans that the Giants would approach.
Giants GM Joe Schoen vows to land franchise quarterback
After the collapse of last season, owner John Mara emphasized the franchise’s priority to find a franchise quarterback. Since earning another chance from Mara, General Manager Schoen has stated that he’s going to find a franchise quarterback for the Giants, even if it takes him to trade up the draft pick to No. 1 overall, which is currently held by the Tennessee Titans.

I’m for taking swings at that position. It’s the most important position, and it’s hard to find. Keep swinging. Keep swinging at the position until you find one… I believe in our process and the people in the building from a scouting standpoint, the coaching standpoint. So keep swinging, and we’ll try to find one.

As the Giants focus extensively on rebuilding their quarterback position, it’s evident that their ultimate goal is to contend for a championship next season. Every effort and strategic move is being made with the Super Bowl in mind as they aspire to return to the top tier in the league.
