Aaron Rodgers’ performance in must-win Patriots game could influence legacy

A loss against the New England Patriots will force the likes of LeSean McCoy to take New York Jets QB Aaron Rodgers off his GOAT list.

The New York Jets are sitting at 2-5, not the record they were hoping for when Aaron Rodgers returned from a year away from the game. He was supposed to bring stability to the offense and help unlock their wideouts. But the franchise has seen anything but stability after letting go of their head coach and being handed embarrassing losses.

In their four straight losses, the problems on offense have stemmed from a mix of multiple issues. But the prime of them all is the role of the four-time league MVP. Quarterbacks of Rodgers’ status cover up any issues with play calling and schemes.

That became the focus of discussion on FS1’s The Facility as they discussed the state of the New York Jets. Even though their next opponents are the league-worst New England Patriots, former running back LeSean McCoy had his inhibitions.

As much as we wanna talk about how great he is, things he’s done, what’s the results though? Cause you look so great, you’ve only been to one Super Bowl. Then they bring to him to the Jets right, supposed to be the savior. If he doesn’t win this game, we got to talk about if he is really in that GOAT conversation.

LeSean McCoy said

The former two-time All-Pro threw in the names of Joe Montana and Tom Brady as examples of some of the greatest at the position. The two switched teams in their final years in the league and managed to make their new teams relevant.

On the contrary, Aaron Rodgers has yet to do that, despite having a much better offensive line than last season. That is despite having an offensive coach of his choice design the offense around him and his abilities.

Aaron Rodgers has no more excuses

Aaron Rodgers does not just have an otherworldly lineup of wide receivers. Some of them, particularly Allen Lazard and the recently acquired Davante Adams, have played with him in the past. Despite all that, to struggle mightily against not-so-great teams is alarming.

If anything, another quarterback in the same situation should at least have the reverse of their 2-5 record. Brady and Montana went into a completely new system with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Kansas City Chiefs. Even then, they have a few good postseason runs to prove their worth in the GOAT conversation.

Aaron Rodgers has so far disappointed. If the New York Jets do lose to the New England Patriots, many could take the former Super Bowl champion off their greatest quarterback’s charts. There will be nothing worse than losing to another hapless team with a rookie quarterback leading the charge.
