Unlike Mike Tomlin, Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers had a lot to say about Philip Rivers coming out of retirement to sign with the Indianapolis Colts. In classic Rodgers fashion, he welcomed Rivers back to the NFL.

Ahead of the crucial Monday Night game against the 6-7 Miami Dolphins, reporters asked Rodgers to react to Rivers’ return to the league. He began by comparing their ages. Rodgers held the title of the oldest player in the league, having recently celebrated his 42nd birthday on December 2.

With 44-year-old Rivers now officially in the frame, Rodgers is no longer the hermit of pro football.

Well, I’m not the oldest guy in the league. Love that.

Aaron Rodgers chuckled in the Thursday presser

Will he ever follow in Rivers’ footsteps if the opportunity ever presents itself? It turns out that it’s one and done for the 4x NFL MVP.

I was laughing because a couple of buddies hit me up asking what I would do in the situation, and I said, without missing a beat, ‘I’m retired. I’m staying retired‘.

Aaron Rodgers said

Tomlin, on the other hand, couldn’t care less about what’s happening in Indy. As a matter of fact, Tomlin wasn’t even aware that the Colts had signed Rivers.

That’s none of my business, man. I’m trying to get ready for the Dolphins.

Mike Tomlin told the reporters

Daniel Jones posts a heartfelt message after being replaced by Philip Rivers

It has been rough couple of weeks for the Colts. Not only they lost ground in claiming the AFC top seed by losing two straight games against the Texans and the Jaguars, but also lost the architect behind their success.

Quarterback Daniel Jones picked up an injury and is out for the rest of the season. The Colts placed him on injured reserve. On Thursday, Jones posted a heartfelt and possibly goodbye message to the Colts nation.

Thank you to my teammates, coaches, the Colts organization, and all the fans for the overwhelming support. Tough way to end this season but it has been an honor to wear the horseshoe and play for Colts fans. I’ll miss lining up with my guys, but I’ll be riding with them every step of the way. Go Colts!

Daniel Jones wrote (H/T: Bleacher Report)

Jones had signed a one year $14 million contract ahead of the 2025 season. His season prematurely ended after the veteran signal caller tore his Achilles tendon during the Jaguars game.

With 2023 first round draft pick Anthony Richardson recovering from a freak injury, which he suffered earlier in the air, and rookie Riley Leonard nursing an injury, the Colts set out to look for a free agent quarterback. They reached out to former Raiders and Saints QB Derek Carr, who recently hung his cleats.

Carr turned down the chance to play for the 8-5 Colts. Chris Ballard pulled out a rabbit out of the hat or, rather, Rivers. The 8x Pro Bowler, who retired as a Colt in 2020, agreed to return and could play against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday.

It’s a bizarre move on several levels. The Colts signed a player who hasn’t played in five years, and a league appearance in 2025 will delay his chance to join the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Rivers is already a semifinalist for the 2026 HOF. So, he and the Colts are taking big risks.

Regardless, the Colts are relying on one of the greatest trash talkers and ball slingers of all time to save their season from going down the drain. It starts with facing the 10-3 Seahawks.
