Before last season started, New York Jets fans were the most excited, among all in the NFL. They were right to be so as they had Aaron Rodgers and a seemingly Super Bowl-quality team ready to play ball. Except, it all ended with their hands over their heads, as their superstar quarterback went down with a season-ending injury. This season, they are hoping he stays healthy. However, yesterday, they had a small scare.
Jets X-Factor co-founder Robby Sabo was at the practice rounds yesterday and he noticed a series of events that could scare the living daylights out of any New York Jets fan. During a shotgun snap, Aaron Rodgers went down. Apparently, 2nd-year center Joe Tippmann‘s foot caught that of Rodgers. It must be noted that Rodgers’ foot here in question is the same one that is linked with the Achilles he tore last season. Sabo noted that the QB was frustrated as it could have ended in another disaster.
Offensive linemen stepping onto the feet of quarterbacks is nothing new. But Rodgers’ left Achilles is probably still healing. Any further damage could force him to miss further time. Or worse, end his football career. Therefore, such a play can scare fans and Rodgers too.
But Sabo added that after that incident, the former multiple-time MVP had a day to forget. His throw to wide receiver Malik Taylor went off, bringing concern to onlookers as the offense struggled. However, more practice should fix these issues.
Aaron Rodgers has the Jets fanbase holding their breath
It is not like this off day is the only concern the New York Jets fans have to worry about. They know that the 40-year-old is nearing the end of his career. Therefore, any small injury could flare up. Adding to that, his actions in the pre-season have given fans conflicting views regarding his motivation.
The absence from mandatory minicamp forces the notion that probably he is not as motivated as he was last season. Then there are the constant questions regarding retirement. Hopefully, Rodgers has it all figured out and will ball out this season. But if injuries affect him, the season might fall flat on its head.
That could signal the end of the career of one of the best quarterbacks of all time. Fans just hope that the Jets play lights out from the start and win the Super Bowl this season. Else, there is a chance they might go into a full rebuild.
