Arguments are part and parcel of football, and it can either mean players are not on the same page or their aim is helping each other improve through dialogue. It’s hard to pinpoint which category Aaron Rodgers and Garrett Wilson’s recent viral exchange of words during the Jets practice belongs to.

Everything was going smoothly on Saturday, as reported by The Athletic’s Zack Rosenblatt and Jets beat writer Nick Faria. As per usual, Rodgers looked in splendid form—found his receivers in both 7v7 and 11v11 drills and made life hard for corners DJ Reed and Sauce Gardner.

So, it came as a surprise to many fans when they noticed Wilson on the sidelines arguing with Rodgers about something. A clip of the heated exchange went viral, but it’s hard to make out the subject of their debate.

Judging by Wilson’s body language, he wasn’t too happy about something Rodgers did. No love loss between the two because the brief moment of squabble ended with a handshake and both went their merry ways.

Apparently, just before the argument, Aaron Rodgers missed his only pass of the day to Garrett Wilson by some distance. Faria described the pass as the 40-year-old’s worst in the entire camp.

Aaron Rodgers has high hopes for Garrett Wilson

Since the first day of the 2024 training camp, Rodgers and Wilson tormented the defensive backs. The former Ohio State wideout simply looks unstoppable with the 4 time NFL MVP throwing to him.

This is the second straight year Rodgers got the chance to test Wilson’s strengths, and he concluded that the young playmaker could become elite.

I told him in the meeting [Tuesday], I think he [Garrett Wilson] has the talent and the ability to be the best receiver in the league.
Aaron Rodgers said per ESPN’s Rich Cimini

Since becoming a Jet, Wilson has caught 178 passes for 2,145 yards and seven touchdowns. Last season he had 95 receptions for 1042 yards and 3 touchdowns while receiving from Zach Wilson, who placed 30 out of 32 in the Pro Football References’ quarterback rankings.

2024 could prove to be the year Wilson goes nuclear and establishes himself among the CeeDee Lambs and Justin Jeffersons of the NFL. After that, a possible big-money extension.
