In January 2025, Aaron Rodgers was not sure where his future lay in football. Fast forward a year, and the quarterback is preparing to lead his Pittsburgh Steelers into the playoffs.

Their Monday Night Wild Card showdown against the Houston Texans will be the first time the 42-year-old plays in the postseason since 2021.

Last time around, he and his Green Bay Packers suffered a narrow loss to the San Francisco 49ers. Heading into this game, Rodgers believes his team has the momentum.

It feels good to shut all those comments down. Clean the slate now, anybody can make a run. It’s the hottest team. We’ve won 4 of 5. We’re playing a lot better football than we were earlier in the season. I like our chances.

Aaron Rodgers told reporters

Shutting down the comments was a reference to whenever the media or fans either criticized him or head coach Mike Tomlin for their paltry 6-6 record after Week 13.

Since then, they have staged a 4-5 record, with their latest victory sealing their fate as AFC North champions. That run proved their character as a united team. Aaron Rodgers believes that now, in the postseason, everyone’s record is reset, which means anyone has a chance to put together a string of wins and push towards the Super Bowl.

Considering their recent run, the California native reiterated that his team has a fighting chance of proving everyone wrong if they continue to win games.

Aaron Rodgers expresses the team’s love for Mike Tomlin

While talking about how the Pittsburgh Steelers effectively shut down all narratives asking for Mike Tomlin to be fired, reporters asked Aaron Rodgers about the team’s relationship with their head coach.

We love Mike T. Mike T has had an incredible career as an HC to go that long and never have a losing season. It’s unbelievable. There’s always going to be something. … Mike T’s probably like me. Doesn’t give a whole lot of (expletive) about any of those comments.

The 42-year-old has quite a few times expressed his gratitude towards Tomlin for bringing him to Pennsylvania when he was short of options.

Now, he revealed how the entire team loves its head coach and wants to continue fighting for wins. Rodgers believes it was his and Tomlin’s do-not-care attitude that saw them shut down all the noise after their Week 13 loss to the Buffalo Bills, and then go on a winning run.

For the superstar quarterback, this scenario is vastly different from his final years with the Green Bay Packers, as well as the New York Jets.

Aaron Rodgers subtly flames his time with the Jets

After talking about how he and his team love their head coach, a reporter asked Aaron Rodgers if Mike Tomlin’s allowing him to do what he wants was what attracted him to sign with the Steelers.

A lot of that I think is important… One thing I really love, and it’s kind of the antithesis of where I was, is that there is not many leaks in the boat… To go through a season like this and be able to focus on football and not have a lot of other little (expletive) out there has been really nice.

His cheeky smile towards the end of that sentence was nothing more than a subtle shot at the New York Jets. Even though it was believed that he had a free rein there, his answer indicates otherwise.

Moreover, the four-time league MVP is happy that the Steelers know how to keep matters internal and not allow the outside world to feast on it and form an opinion, something that was a pipe dream in New York.
