Aaron Rodgers returned to active football in Week 1 of this NFL season. His hopes of having a storybook return were denied as he and his teammates suffered an embarrassing loss at the hands of the San Francisco 49ers. In the aftermath, New York Jets fans took shots at their superstar quarterback. But Rodgers, always known to speak what he wants, ended up taking a shot at their loyalty.
SiriusXM and ESPN analyst Chris ‘Mad Dog’ Russo took his chance while on First Take to speak about Rodgers words. In his well-known high pitched voice, he said:
Aaron Rodgers has been here for a cup of coffee, he's been here one game. That was an awful, awful, awful performance. And then I’m going to listen to Rodgers tell me, ‘Well if you jump off the bandwagon, you’re not coming back on.’ Go back to Green Bay. You’re gonna tell the Jet fan what they should and should not do? Enough already. That was a disgrace!Chris Russo on Aaron Rodgers
Russo did not hold back in bashing the 40-year-old quarterback. He said, for someone who hasn’t even woven himself into the fabric of the Jets, cannot talk about what fans should do.
Especially the loyal one who have bought tickets or turned on the TV to support their team. When one considers the fact the New York Jets have not won a Super Bowl in 56 years, it is a testament of their loyalty that they still come to the games regularly.
Russo feels it is disrespectful from someone who did not hold up his end of the bargain against the San Francisco 49ers. Therefore, he prefers if Aaron Rodgers delivers some success to the Jets before taking shots at the fans.
Chris Russo worried for Aaron Rodgers after Achilles tear
In between that rant, Chris Russo shouted out how unprepared the New York Jets looked. After taking shots at the coaching staff, he weighed in on Rodgers’ mobility.
I’m not gonna even kill Rodgers. Now, he can’t move; he can’t move. He’s very nervous about this Achilles. He’s gonna be a sitting duck back there all year long. He can’t move. He can’t do anything.Chris Russo said
Russo probably noticed this while watching the Monday Night game. It seems he found Rodgers to be struggling to move around.
If that happens to be true, then it could become a problem down the stretch. Rodgers has to be mentally locked in to move around when the pockets collapse as it could hinder his throwing ability.
If anything, he should work himself up to football speed and play his way out of that mental block. Otherwise, the New York Jets will have to forget reaching their goal of winning a Super Bowl.
The front office has invested in a solid offensive line to help him. But the coaches have to somehow motivate Rodgers to get over that obstacle and play better.
