Aaron Rodgers’ future with the New York Jets remains at a crossroads, as the final decision remains in owner Woody Johnson’s hands. Rodgers, meanwhile, is busy monitoring Californian wildfires.

During Thursday’s edition of the Pat McAfee Show on ESPN, Rodgers revealed that he had a short talk with the Jets brass after their season’s final game. He wanted to let them know about taking some time off and gathering his thoughts before returning to his post.

I told them I’m going to take some time… I’m taking time for my body and my mind to clear things.

Rodgers’ second year in the Big Apple didn’t turn out as he had pictured. They finished the campaign with a 5-12 record, 2 wins fewer than 2023 when Rodgers was in rehab due to a torn Achilles.

Johnson wasn’t happy with the results. He fired both head coach Robert Saleh and general manager Joe Douglas and brought in Rodgers’ former Packers teammate Davante Adams to provide the 10x Pro Bowler some familiar faces to bring about a positive change in the Jets culture.

Rodgers is under contract with the Jets for the 2025 season, but none of the money is guaranteed. The Jets need to exercise $35 million for the veteran quarterback to return, in addition to a $2.5 million base salary. Even though he met with Johnson and Jets President Hymie Elhai after the season ended, the focus of their discussion was centered around the team rather than his.

The final decision will come down to whom the Jets hire as their new head coach and GM.

I think everybody understands that it is going to come down to the GM and coach and myself and whether we all want to do a dance together or it is not in the cards.

Aaron Rodgers wouldn’t mind playing for another team

It’s entirely possible that the Jets cut Rodgers before the off-season kicks in. The Jets hold the seventh overall pick in the draft, potentially allowing them to take a quarterback.

If the Jets do part ways, the 41-year-old revealed that he will happily accept the decision.

I’ve done it once. Obviously, there is a lot of hypotheticals here. So, if I want to play, hypothetical no. 1. If they want to move on, hypothetical no. 2. Would I be willing to play another team, hypothetical no. 3. The answer is yes.
