While Aaron Rodgers may not be the most popular player among the New York Jets fanbase, the situation in the locker room is quite different. His teammates repeatedly showed faith in the veteran quarterback despite his struggles.
The Jets sit 4-12 with the finale against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday left to focus on. Before the fixture, fans witnessed another example of camaraderie between Rodgers and his teammates.
During the Jets’ practice on Friday, the Super Bowl winner went about his stretching routine while wearing a different-numbered shirt. The number 56 jersey belongs to Jets linebacker Quincy Williams. At some point, the two swapped jerseys, signifying their respect for one another.

Does swapping jerseys mean the end for Aaron Rodgers at Jets?
The Jets went shopping for a new head coach and general manager this week. It only indicates the owner’s urgency to make adjustments even before the offseason begins. If that’s the intention, then a fresh face at the quarterback spot won’t surprise anyone.
Rodgers wants to remain in New York and even claimed the last couple of years were the best of his career. However, the final decision rests upon the owners and if they believe a change might be the answer for the future of the franchise then they will not hesitate to cut the 4x NFL MVP.
The jersey swap on the final practice session perhaps is a hint that some major announcements are in store in the next few weeks.
Potential quarterback of the future
The Jets faced divisional rivals the Buffalo Bills in week 17, a game in which they found themselves 30+ points behind in the third quarter. Rodgers willfully removed himself from the quarterback spot, allowing Tyrod Taylor to take over, who threw two passing touchdowns in the final moments of the game.

This move generated ample buzz on social media, creating speculation about Rodgers’ future with the Jets. A section would prefer to see the back of the former Green Bay Packer and see a new quarterback take over at the helm.
One particular trade that has been making the rounds on X is JJ McCarthy to the Jets. The 10th overall pick for the Minnesota Vikings spent his rookie season in rehab after he underwent surgery on his knee for a torn meniscus.

In McCarthy’s absence, former Jets QB Sam Darnold led the Vikings to a 14-2 record with one game left. Darnold is only 27 years old, and the word from inside the Vikings camp is that they might keep the former first-rounder.
This doesn’t mean the end of the road for McCarthy in Minnesota but the success of first-year quarterbacks (Jayden Daniels, Bo Nix, Drake Maye, Caleb Williams) in the past year may be enough for the Jets to move in for the 2023 CFP Champion.
