At age 41, Aaron Rodgers is not at a stage where he can take the odd hit or two and carry on as if nothing has happened. Years of taking blows to the body will start to hinder the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback.

Earlier this season, he reacted to left tackle Broderick Jones after tackling him during a celebration. Later, he jokingly pointed out that the 300-pounder should keep his age in mind, as any unwanted hit could injure him.

That became a reality when Rodgers clutched his left wrist during Unc Bowl 2.0. The blame does not lie with Jones, as he was not responsible. However, that hit led to a small fracture.

Initially, there were concerns that the four-time league MVP would need surgery. Any such procedure would rule him out for a decent length of time. Now, it seems there is no need of it.

Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers underwent further tests Monday that confirmed he won’t need surgery on his fractured left wrist, sources tell me and Ian Rapoport. Rodgers is pushing to play Sunday at Chicago. But doctors must clear him, and his status moving forward is TBD.

Steelers fans will welcome this news with open arms. Had he required surgery, he could have been out for a minimum of 3 games. Even though backup Mason Rudolph did an admirable job in place of his veteran teammate, fans would prefer Rodgers over him any day.

Aaron Rodgers would be wise not to play against Bears

Even though Aaron Rodgers might not need surgery, it would be wise not to take the trip to Chicago and play against the Bears. It would be prudent to rest back in Pittsburgh while the team handles the game.

If he gets his wish and does play, there is a chance he could aggravate the injury. With playoff teams lining up in Weeks 13 and 14, they would need the Super Bowl champion quarterback’s experience against them.

If he stays back, keeps his wrist in a cast for 10 days, and lets it heal, he can return to practice in Week 13 and then confidently prepare to take on the resurgent Baltimore Ravens.

Wins against them and then the Buffalo Bills will be crucial for the Steelers’ playoff chances. It is not as if the Steelers are fighting for a spot currently, but those games against conference and division rivals usually impact postseason rankings.

After that, the going gets a bit easier, as they will face the Miami Dolphins and the Cleveland Browns with a tough away game at Detroit in between.

Perform well in those, and their Week 18 clash against the Ravens could become the perfect time for the oldest QB in the league to earn some much-needed rest.

Mike Tomlin confirms Aaron Rodgers will not need surgery

Other than talking about Jalen Ramsey, head coach Mike Tomlin also talked about his superstar quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, in the Steelers’ media room.

Aaron’s got a fracture in his wrist. It does not require surgery. Really, it’s just about bracing it and securing it for his comfort and safety.

Mike Tomlin told reporters

This backs up what Insiders have reported that the California native has been talking about playing this coming week. However, Tomlin and the medical staff may not allow that.

Aggravating the injury would be detrimental to their playoff chances, and they would need Rodgers’ years of experience and smarts to win against other playoff opponents.
