Lately, Aaron Rodgers has seen his name linked to a specific team, and he appears intrigued by the possibility. Following his departure from the New York Jets, the veteran quarterback expressed modest expectations for his future, telling TMZ that his primary preference is to join a team that genuinely wants him.
However, with rumors circulating about Matthew Stafford’s potential trade from the Los Angeles Rams, Rodgers is showing interest in taking over as the quarterback for the Rams. New York Daily’s Pat Leonard reported that the four-time NFL MVP prefers the starting role in Los Angeles but, he isn’t planning to go alone.
Leonard also revealed that Rodgers wants to take his long-time teammate and friend Davante Adams along with him to the Rams, amid the uncertainty regarding his future in New York. However, the Jets haven’t made any decision about the six-time Pro Bowler, all they know is “he is on the team.”
Sources tell the Daily News that Aaron Rodgers prefers to play for the #Rams and that the outgoing Jets QB would bring Davante Adams with him once the Jets receiver becomes a free agent.

Interestingly, both Rodgers and Stafford are still members of their respective teams. Given, that the Jets plan to release the veteran quarterback after June 1, Stafford’s agent is currently hearing offers from other teams, since the quarterback seeks to join a $50 million club.
If the deal came through for Stafford, prompting him to formally request the trade from the Rams, Rodgers stands as the next best option for them. As for now, they lack a seasoned replacement within their ranks to replace Stafford. But, if Rodgers can regain his typical form after a full season of recovery from his Achilles injury, he would not significantly diminish the team’s performance compared to Stafford.
Matthew Stafford’s future hangs in balance as trade talks loom
Speaking of Stafford’s contract, the priority for the Rams is to rework his contract since he is left with only $4 million guaranteed money after the 2024 renegotiation of his original contract. According to Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic, the Rams and Stafford’s agent are expected to meet at the NFL Scouting Combine on Thursday, in Indianapolis.

Unfortunately, Los Angeles does not want to commit to the 37-year-old quarterback with a lucrative long-term contract that he is seeking. That’s why, they have allowed his agent Jimmy Sexton to hear offers from other interested teams as well.
There have reportedly been a few teams to approach the Rams regarding the trade availability for Stafford, however, there haven’t been any negotiations or discussions in place. The Rams could approach Rodgers at a lower contract if Stafford leaves otherwise, they can target to obtain the No. 1 overall pick for the 2026 draft to acquire young talent.
