Manchester United have been really busy in the summer transfer window. The Red Devils have gotten hold of Bayern Munich duo Mathhijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui. In addition to their arrival, a significant departure has also managed to make headlines on social media. Days ago, Aaron Wan-Bissaka joined West Ham United on a permanent deal.

Wan-Bissaka has been a reliable defender for the club ever since his arrival at Old Trafford in 2019. The club secured him for a fee of £50 million and was let go for a much lower amount in the region of £15 million. That being said, the player did make around 130 appearances for United. Following his move to West Ham United, the player has taken a subtle ‘jab’ at his former club.

It was a no brainer for me to join West Ham. I was born here and to be back playing in this city means a lot to me.

West Ham have attracted a lot of attention following their aggressive approach in the transfer market. The club have also brought in Niclas Fullkrug, Guido Rodriguez and Thilo Kehrer.

The rise and fall of England’s ‘next best right-back’ Aaron Wan-Bissaka

There was much excitement and jubilation in 2019 when Manchester United picked up a 21-year-old Wan-Bissaka. Despite his ‘high’ fee, many felt that his arrival was justified on the basis that he is one of the best defensive right-backs in the game. However, fans quickly turned on him for his lack of attacking prowess as he eventually lost his spot to Diogo Dalot.

A closer look at his 130 appearances for the Red Devils points out that he barely appeared in half of the games during his time at the club. Another surprising fact is that West Ham have signed the player on a lengthy seven-year contract. However, the explanation lies in the fact that the club have evenly spread out his salary in the above mentioned period.

Even though United may have found it easier to let go of players like Donny van de Beek & Anthony Martial, the departure of the Englishman came as surprising to many. The club however, have brought in Noussair Mazraoui from Germany and will pay him a salary close to $170,000 (previous salary at Bayern) for his services.
