Travis Hunter won the Heisman Trophy after being in a race all this season with Ashton Jeanty to be named as the best player in college football. In the history of the award, only one defensive player has won it and that left the likes of star pass rusher Abdul Carter annoyed.
Carter has been without a doubt the best defensive player in college football. His game changing plays while starring for the Penn State Nittany Lions last season saw him in the Top 3 lists of college football players. His play and drive have seen many draw comparisons to another No. 11 who played for Penn State, Micah Parsons.
But some believe, Carter was the absolute best player in college. Even then, he was not part of the finalists for the Heisman Trophy. In November last year, he shared his opinion about defensive players not being a part of the conversation.
Back then, many came forward to criticize him, suggesting he was speaking out of his depth. Since then, he showed why he is a game changer with elite play against ranked teams. Now, with the season over, he decided to repost that interview with this caption;
This was on 𝟏𝟏/𝟑𝟎/𝟐𝟒.. Before yall go there. this is NOTHING NEW. I been trying to yall im the 𝐁𝐄𝐒𝐓 𝐎𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐀𝐋𝐋 𝐏𝐋𝐀𝐘𝐄𝐑.. yall just “Starting to Understand it now”.. lolll

The star pass rusher added the lines ‘#1 pick, 91 days away 2025 NFL Draft’ to suggest he believes he is the one to go off the board first. He believes if one overlooks the media obsession with offensive players, he is the generational talent teams should be looking for.
Abdul Carter facing competition from Travis Hunter, Cam Ward and Ashton Jeanty
With the Tennessee Titans holding the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, questions are plenty as to who they will select. The Titans have claimed that they will not pass on from picking a generational talent. At the same time, who that player will be is unknown.
Some feel they could go with Travis Hunter, whose two-way skills will benefit the Titans. On the other hand, Cam Ward is touted as another player they could select as they need a quality QB. In all of this, Abdul Carter’s name does not come up.
As per Mel Kiper Jr.‘s draft board, he is expected to go to the Cleveland Browns. The Browns have to decide on the future of star pass rusher Myles Garrett, making Carter a viable option. However, they also have to decide on their quarterback situation, considering Deshaun Watson will not be available.
With the New York Giants also expected to pick a quarterback, Abdul Carter could slide down to fourth. He is trying to avoid that discourse as he claims to be the best overall player in the 2025 NFL Draft. Come April, he will know who paid attention to that claim.
