Personnel from all the teams are at the NFL Combine to assess who they will select in the upcoming Draft. Many teams might already know who to get, but when it comes to the likes of Abdul Carter, the possibilities are endless.
Some mock drafts project him to be the best overall prospect. However, the Tennessee Titans might not have decided who to pick. Then there are the Cleveland Browns at No. 2 and with Myles Garrett‘s recent trade request, they become the most logical landing spot.
If they balk and pick someone else, he could slide down to No. 4 or 5 as the New York Giants probably want a QB. In between all this the name Travis Hunter looms large. Some believe the Heisman Trophy winner could go No. 1 overall if the Titans delay their need for a quarterback.
With such uncertainty surrounding his actual value, Abdul Carter landed at the NFL Combine. The most important takeaway from his interviews was that he believes he deserves to go No. 1 overall. Then later once he went through his medicals, Ian Rapoport received this update.
Tests at the NFL Combine revealed that potential No. 1 pick and PSU star Abdul Carter has a stress reaction in his right foot and he may have surgery. Option 1 would be to have the pre-emptive surgery, have a screw inserted in his foot, and be back in 8 weeks, agent Drew Rosenhaus said.
Ian Rapoport wrote
“There are mixed opinions on whether he needs surgery, and we will figure that out in the near future,” agent Drew Rosenhaus said Wednesdasy night in Indianapolis. https://t.co/fMddKBFpzA

This instantly puts at risk his chances of going No. 1 overall. He could take the risk and show out at the combine. But if he prefers to focus on his long-term health, he might look towards getting a surgery done.
Fans lose their minds on Abdul Carter’s latest injury
This stress reaction is not a make-or-break situation. He could perform with it and still prove he is the best. But if no team picks up with either of the top 2 picks, it could make the effort go to waste. More importantly, any additional impact on his foot could aggravate the injury.

Fans believe this situation will jeopardize his NFL career. Some believe he will receive the short end of the stick no matter which direction he goes. At the same time others think he should go ahead with the surgery and at least have a longer career. Check out examples of those comments below.

I heard he had a bad back too and his neck was fucked up. And his knee wasn’t right too. Very reliable sources. Might fall somewhere in the 32 pick range

Travis Hunter was going No. 1 anyways. Imagine the Giants with Sexy Dex, KT, Burns & Abdul? Cancel the league

Currently there are varying logics behind each choice. But Abdul Carter will need to decide which door he opens. He could do a Shedeur Sanders, and hope things work out. Or maybe luck shines on him and his dream of playing for the Philadelphia Eagles comes true.
