Team India registered a historic victory against Australia in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25 at the Optus Stadium in Perth by 295 runs. The pitch was green top and India decided to go in with four pacers and one spinner, Washington Sundar, primarily due to his batting abilities. It was one of the rare instances when India did not field either Ravichandran Ashwin or Ravindra Jadeja in their Test XI.

Now, just ahead of the second Test match against Australia at the Adelaide Oval, India’s assistant coach, Abhishek Nayar was asked if the senior spin duo was upset after they were not picked in the first Test.

Nayar said that both Jadeja and Ashwin were aware of the planning of the team management and the conditions on offer.

It is only tough when you have seniors who do not understand it. When you have seniors like Jaddu and Ashwin, who understand what the team is trying to do, I think it becomes very easy. The team follows what Gauti bhai believes in. We were very happy with how Ashwin and Jaddu were helping the younger guys do well here. I just felt that the culture of the team was focused on team India to win.

Abhishek Nayar said to India Today

The last time either of Ashwin or Jadeja were not part of the Test XI was the final Test of the 2020-21 Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the Gabba, which India won. Jadeja suffered a fractured thumb in the previous Test in Sydney, and Ashwin was rested with a back issue.

Rohit Sharma will be back as the captain in the second Test in Adelaide

India’s regular Test captain, Rohit Sharma, missed the first Test due to the birth of his baby boy. However, he is back with the squad and is set to feature in the Pink Ball Test starting on December 6 at the Adelaide Oval.

It remains to be seen if the opening partnership of Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul, which has performed really well in the first Test, is disturbed or not.

Australia will miss the services of Josh Hazlewood who has suffered a side strain and is ruled out of the game. It is expected that Scott Boland will replace him in the playing XI.

In the last Pink ball Test in the BGT 2020-21, Hazlewood played a major part in dismissing India for 36 runs in the second innings and Australia won that Test match.
