The young Indian batter, Abhishek Sharma, has announced his arrival in India’s T20I team in style. After getting out for a duck in the opening game of the five-game T20I series against Zimbabwe, he came back in style in the second game. Sharma scored his maiden T20I hundred and showed the world why he is being rated so highly in T20 cricket.
Abhishek Sharma was at his destructive best in the second T20I. He scored his century in just 47 balls with 7 fours and 8 sixes. He displayed no mercy on the bowlers and kept going with his big shots. Sharma was fearless, and despite his catch being dropped, he did not slow down. He kept taking on the bowlers and broke the back of the Zimbabwe bowling attack.
At the end of the game, Sharma said that he played with Shubman Gill‘s bat during the second T20I. He stated that whenever he is short of runs, he asks for a bat from Gill.

Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill share a close relationship
Shubman Gill is leading the young India brigade in the 5-game T20I series against Zimbabwe. He and Sharma share a very close bonding right from their time while playing domestic cricket for Punjab. During IPL 2024, Sharma even took Gill to introduce him to his parents during the game between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Gujarat Titans in Hyderabad.
Meanwhile, Sharma was at his sensational best during IPL 2024. He along with Travis Head was the most destructive opening combination during the tournament. He matched Head shot by shot and he has brought his IPL form to international cricket. After Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli announced their retirement from T20I cricket after the T20 World Cup, Sharma has some big shoes to fill in.
However, he does have the potential and is ultra aggressive. India need openers who can take the attack to the opposition right from the very first ball of the innings. As of now, Abhishek Sharma does have in him the qualities to fulfil the role.
