India started their Asia Cup campaign in style with a dominant performance against the host nation UAE. They bowled UAE out for just 57 runs with every Indian bowler chipping in. And later, Abhishek Sharma came out to bat with Shubman Gill to chase the target down.
Sharma just blew the opposition away from ball one as he smashed his way to a quick 30 off 16 balls. India, with the help of that quickfire innings at the top, chased the total in just 4.3 overs. When captain Suryakumar Yadav was asked about Abhishek Sharma at the post-match presentation, the Indian captain was all praise for the young left-hander.
He is a phenomenal batter, and that’s the reason he is the number one batter in the world right now in this format. The way he sets the tone in the powerplay. He keeps the team first whether chasing a big total or a small total.
Suryakumar Yadav said (via post match presentation)
Yadav was thoroughly impressed with the way Abhishek Sharma gave India the perfect start. He called the left-handed batter a proper team man. Sharma started his and the Indian innings with a six over long off and followed it with a four the next ball, giving his team a massive head-start.

As he has done in his short career so far, the opening batter didn’t stop there and went after the bowling. His partner Shubman Gill too got off to a good start as he too flicked a few shots into the stands in his 20 off 9 balls. Captain Yadav came in to smash his first ball into the stands as he contributed too to India’s rather comfortable chase.
Five Indian players strive to play their first ever match against Pakistan in this Asia Cup
It is a dream to represent the country at the highest level for most cricketers. Once the player gets there, he or she wants to play that high pressure match against Pakistan.
However, with bilateral cricket between the two countries on a halt right now, the possibility of playing Pakistan regularly has diminished. The players get to play their dream match only once or twice a year. The 2025 Asia Cup provides another such opportunity for the players in the Indian squad.

Out of the 15 selected, 10 have played a match against the archrivals. The five players who are still to get on the field against Pakistan are Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, Rinku Singh and Jitesh Sharma. In all likelihood, Samson, Sharma and Varma will make their debuts against Pakistan on the 14th and will experience the highly spoken about intensity.
They would love to create an impression straight away as runs against the archrivals are worth gold. Players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah attracted a lot of praise and attention because of their consistent performances against Pakistan, and the young guns of the team would love to follow suit.
One of the battles to look forward to will be Pakistani bowling spearhead Shaheen Afridi vs India’s explosive Abhishek Sharma. The left handers will most certainly provide a battle for the ages for their fans.
Captain Suryakumar Yadav would also want to improve his record against the Pakistan bowling attack. The archrivals are the only Test playing nation, against whom he has not crossed 30 in his international career. The Pakistani bowlers have done well to limit his scoring. It will be interesting to see how India’s new T20 captain responds to the challenge.
