British WTA star Emma Raducanu is ready to compete at the 2024 US Open. While speaking to the media ahead of her first-round match, Raducanu was asked about Andy Murray and how it felt to compete on the tour without the British tennis legend. To this, the 21-year-old gave a response that drew loads of criticism from tennis fans online.

Raducanu claimed that she feels no difference without Murray. The Briton said that tennis is “unforgiving” as it moves on from a player despite their stature. Raducanu said that while she grew up watching Murray competing and winning the US Open as well, the fast-paced tour makes it “old news”.

Of course, Andy has achieved amazing things and I have watched him win this tournament but yeah, it’s fast-paced like life - it’s old news the next day.

Emma Raducanu called out for “disrespectful” comment about Andy Murray

Emma Raducanu claiming that she feels no difference without Andy Murray competing on the tour did not sit well with tennis fans and the 2021 US Open champion was called out online. Fans felt Raducanu’s comments were disrespectful towards Murray, who has always supported his peers on WTA.

It is worth mentioning that Raducanu was also criticized for leaving Murray stranded at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships. The two were touted to compete together in the mixed doubles category. However, Raducanu pulled out at the last moment to prioritize her singles event while Murray missed out on the chance to play one more match at the Grand Slam tournament before retirement.

She was criticized by the fans as well as Judy Murray. Although Andy defended Raducanu for her decision, fans held Raducanu responsible for Murray missing out on one more match in his last stint.
