After the conclusion of the Australian Open, several top players have signed up for the season’s first tournament of the Middle East Swing: the Abu Dhabi Open. The matches will be held at Abu Dhabi’s Zayed Sports City International Tennis Centre and will be concluded on February 8.

Elena Rybakina, the defending champion, is the top seed, and received a bye, as the likes of Aryna Sabalenka, Iga Swiatek, Coco Gauff, and Jasmine Paolini are not playing. Paula Badosa, who reached her first Grand Slam semifinal at the 2025 Australian Open, has also signed up for the event.

Ons Jabeur, Emma Raducanu, last year’s runner-up Daria Kasatkina, and Jelena Ostapenko, among many others, have set their eyes on the trophy and the prize money. The total prize pool for the season’s fourth WTA 500 event is $1,064,510, an increase of 15.38% from last year.

The runner-up and the champion will pocket $101,000 and $164,000, respectively. The WTA 500 events that were held before the Abu Dhabi Open were the Brisbane International, Adelaide International, and the Linz Open.

2025 Abu Dhabi Open schedule

The qualifying rounds of the Abu Dhabi Open started on February 1 and concluded on February 2, following which the main draw events are scheduled. The main draw of which is set to kick start on Monday (February 3).

The tournament was first introduced in 2021 and current World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka emerged as the champion, while Belinda Bencic, the 2021 Olympic gold medalist, was the winner in 2023. After the conclusion of the Abu Dhabi Open, season’s first WTA 1000 tournament, the Qatar Open, will start on February 9.

Following the tournament in Doha, the focus will shift toward another WTA 1000 tournament, the Dubai Tennis Championships, scheduled to begin on February 16. Iga Swiatek, Sabalenka, and Coco Gauff will be back on the court for the Qatar Open. But 2025 Australian Open champion Madison Keys, who beat Sabalenka in three sets in the final, has pulled out of it because of a hamstring injury she suffered at the Australian Open.
