ACO president Pierre Fillon demands NASCAR Next-Gen car ‘has to have a hybrid system,’ to secure their spot at 2023 24 Hours of Le Mans

When you have one of the most entertaining and challenging motorsports racing championships going on at the same time it is inevitable that they will cross paths at least once for the fans. NASCAR, the premier stock car racing event and IMSA, the provider of premier endurance racing events will once again join hands for stock cars entry into 24 Hours Le Mans since their last collaboration in 1976.

NASCAR has announced its comeback to the premier endurance racing event, the 24 Hours of Le Mans next year with team Hendrick Motorsport’s modified hybrid version of Next-Gen Chevrolet Camaro ZL1.

The named Garage 56 will enter in the spot reserved for highlighting innovation and technology that exists outside of the WEC regulations and it will not take the spot from the traditional starting grid. Now the ACO president Pierre Fillon has confirmed that in order for the project to materialize Next-Gen can go Hybrid.

NASCAR to return to 24 hours of Le Mans in Hendrick Motorsports Next-Gen cars

Automobile Club de l’Ouest, which organizes the 24 hours of Le Mans, president Pierre Fillon said that in Next-Gen cars should have a hybrid system to ratify the induction to next year’s premier endurance race as the Garage 56 is dedicated to cars with innovative technologies.

It has to have a hybrid system. Garage 56 is for a car dedicated to innovative technology; it needs to be something innovative,Pierre Fillon said.

Pierre Fillon went on to say he was very enthusiastic and excited when NASCAR CEO Jim France pitched the idea of Next-Gen cars fitted with Hybrid systems joining the 24 hours of Le Mans. He said that the project still has the constraint of convincing the selection committee about the entry and added is confident with the Next-Gen securing the spot.

When Jim [France, NASCAR boss] told me there would be a new generation of cars in NASCAR using a hybrid system and that he had this crazy idea to enter a NASCAR in Garage 56 in 2023, I was immediately enthusiastic,” Pierre Fillon said.

We have to convince the selection committee for 2023, but I am sure with the high-level team behind this project they will take care of this. I am very confident,” Pierre Fillon added.
