‘Actors using me as inspiration is a honor’ – Jorge Masvidal’s influence reaches Mortal Kombat!
Mortal Kombat, the mysterious, intergalactic tournament of martial arts has become a household name, due to the massive hit of the video game franchise. More recently, the trailer for the latest installation in the Mortal Kombat, movie series, starring Joe Taslim, Lewis Tan and others, was released. The trailer was met with a positive response; with the movie scheduled to release on the 16th of April, this year.
Elsewhere, it looks like UFC Welterweight Jorge ‘Gamebred’ Masvidal’s influence has ‘struck’ the film; as one of the lead actors – Lewis Tan mentioned that there is a moment in the movie where the main character is leaning up against the fighting cage, just like Jorge Masvidal did, before knocking the lights out on Ben Askren in a jiffy.
‘After watching the trailer I’m hyped for the movie‘
Damon Martin of MMA Fighting took to Twitter to post an image of Lewis Tan mentioning the influence of Jorge Masvidal in the film; captioning it, “If you watch the new #MortalKombat trailer, the new character Cole Young is an MMA fighter and he actually took his stance in the cage from @GamebredFighter in his fight with Ben Askren while also basing part of his character on Masvidal. From @EW“.
A thrilled Jorge Masvidal, later tweeted, “Actors using me as inspiration is a honor and after watching the trailer I’m hyped for the movie! #andnew #1of1.”
Masvidal, hasn’t fought since his loss to Kamaru Usman at UFC 251, although a possibility of a rematch between the two seems to be largely looming. He also has an ongoing feud with Colby Covington, with Colby accusing Masvidal of constantly ducking him. Welterweight champion or not, the BMF has made his mark in what is arguably the most theatric display of martial arts – Mortal Kombat.
