Adam Copeland defended the TNT Championship against Malakai Black at Double or Nothing in a barbed wire Steel Cage match. As it has been synonymous with the Rated-R Superstar throughout his entire career, he delivered an elbow drop from the top of the cage. Copeland had set up Black on a table with barbed wire.
However, the 50-year-old seemingly failed to stick the landing. Instead of driving himself through the table, he ended up falling on his knees awkwardly. Despite that, he went on to not only complete the match but also win it. As expected, House of Black members Buddy Matthews and Brody King interfered in the bout.
At first, it seemed that the duo had left Malakai Black to join forces with Copeland. However, it turned out to be a ruse as the two started laying a beatdown on the 50-year-old. Just as it looked like there was about to be a new champion, the lights turned red. And out came Gangrel to help out his Brood brother by evening the odds.
Previously, the veteran disclosed that he had pitched to have his former teammate accompany him at WrestleMania 39. However, WWE denied his request, stating that no one would recognize him. That being said, Gangrel received a huge reaction as he appeared from under the ring to help Copeland retain the TNT title.
Fans in shock after Adam Copeland botches elbow drop at AEW Double or Nothing
At the age of 50, Adam Copeland remains one of the best workers in the wrestling industry. Needless to say, the elbow drop from the top of the steel structure at Double or Nothing had fans in awe of the former WWE Champion. The majority of the wrestling community pointed out how brutal the spot was as he landed on his knees.
One fan compared it to Sid Justice breaking his leg in WCW in 2001. Meanwhile, another user boldly claimed that Copeland needed to retire after awkwardly landing. A few fans hilariously mentioned that he was going for his former Judgment Day teammate Finn Balor‘s finisher but failed.
Another user opined that the veteran should’ve stayed in WWE, implying that this wouldn’t have happened there. Further, some thought that the spot was not only dangerous but also unnecessary.
