Weeks after the introduction of the Women’s United States Championship, Adam Pearce made a historic announcement prior to tonight’s Raw. The general manager revealed the new Women’s Intercontinental Championship, exclusive to the red brand. Pearce put over the women’s division on Monday nights, calling them the workhorses of Raw.

Additionally, Adam Pearce revealed that a new tournament to crown the inaugural champion will begin on next week’s episode. However, no further details were provided about it. Also, whether or not this announcement airs during the show is yet to be seen. Fans can expect a similar tournament to the Women’s US Title, featuring 12 women.

The Women’s US Champion tournament final will take place at Saturday Night’s Main Event. As for the Intercontinental Championship, it is unlikely that the tournament will culminate at the December PLE. Hence, WWE might crown the inaugural champion on the debut Raw episode on Netflix.

With two new women’s titles introduced on both brands, fans are hoping for more women to get featured on weekly programming. The handling and booking of the division, especially on Monday Night Raw, has come under scrutiny for the past few months.

So far, the tournament on SmackDown has helped showcase underutilized female stars on the roster. Most notably, the likes of Blair Davenport and B-Fab, who received praise from the WWE Universe and backstage officials following her match. Having said that, it will be interesting to see who steps up on the red brand in the coming weeks.

The favorites to win the Women’s Intercontinental Championship on Raw

While the participants for the tournament have not been revealed yet, there are a few names guaranteed to participate in it. Among the names fans have been clamoring to see featured more on television are Dakota Kai and Lyra Valkyria.

In fact, WWE aired vignettes showing both stars last week on Raw. Another fan favorite who could benefit from the introduction of the title is Zelina Vega. The LWO member has showcased her character work and in-ring skills whenever she’s received opportunities on the red brand.

Vega’s current rival, Ivy Nile, is also a candidate to win the title. Other names expected to participate in the tournament include Kairi Sane, Zoey Stark, and Natalya. Nonetheless, only time will tell whether the introduction of the new championship helps boost the women’s division on Raw.
