WNBA and Indiana Fever point guard Caitlin Clark's fame far exceeds that of several young NBA stars.

In Short
  • Caitlin Clark is recognized as the most famous basketball player under 35, surpassing established NBA stars.
  • Nick Wright suggests the NBA should promote Clark as the new 'Face of Basketball' amid a lack of star power.
  • Clark's popularity is evident as fans flock to see her, even during her recovery from injury.

With every passing day, women’s basketball is growing at a rapid pace, even though Caitlin Clark and her peers do not know if or when they will resume playing in the WNBA.

All they have right now is the Unrivaled league, in which the Indiana Fever superstar decided not to participate again, and on the other hand, a few of them, including Clark, will be able to play for USA Basketball in a few weeks.

It will be the first time fans will be able to see the Iowa native in action against international competition. Health permitting, she might also be a part of the final team to take on other countries at the FIBA World Cup, in Berlin, come September.

This could become a golden chance for the WNBA and USA Basketball to exploit Caitlin Clark‘s fame. At the same time, Nick Wright believes that the NBA should, too.

The single most famous basketball player under the age of 35 years old is Caitlin Clark. The three most famous basketball players right now are 41-year-old LeBron James, and 37-38-year-old Steph and KD. Anthony Edwards, Luka, Jokic, Giannis, those guys have not ascended to that level, and that is the major issue facing the league.

The FS1 analyst believes that the NBA has no clear answer for its next ‘Face of the NBA.’ Therefore, Adam Silver could look at promoting the WNBA superstar as the face of basketball.

Caitlin Clark helped Gatorade bring back fan favorite

Caitlin Clark’s popularity has been such that even when she was out injured, her mere presence during Indiana Fever games, be it home or away, saw hordes of fans line up to get a glimpse of her or even an autograph.

When many players tend to stay at their home base to recover, the 24-year-old chose to travel with her team. She knew that both her teammates and her fans would be waiting for her.

There are not many examples of such superstars who are extremely competitive on the court, while also being humble and relatable enough to be a hit among fans. Maybe that is why sports drink giant Gatorade decided to team up with the Iowa great to bring back a fan favorite flavor. It so happens that Clark, too, has always preferred Rain Berry as her favorite.

Now, to help bring it back to the masses, Gatorade made sure they made a limited edition bottle with the two-time All-Star featured on it. They also brought in fellow Indiana-based superstar and close friend Tyrese Haliburton to get her prepared for the photo shoot.

Caitlin Clark and Fever teammates enjoy a boat ride in Miami

There are still two-and-a-half weeks before USA Basketball training camp starts in Miami, Florida. Since most of the players taking part are already in South Beach competing in Unrivaled, Caitlin Clark needed to fly to the state when the time comes.

But it seems she is already there in the state, as pictures of her along with Fever teammates Lexie Hull and Aliyah Boston surfaced on social media. Even though Clark is not in all of them, the collage of pictures points to a Fever get-together.

All those who are currently playing in Unrivaled chartered a boat along with Clark, and were seen having a blast. The last time the point guard met her teammates was when she had Hull and Sophie Cunningham as her caddies during The Annika Pro Am golf tournament.

They know that once Unrivaled’s second season is over, most of them will not meet each other until WNBA training camps open officially. Maybe that’s why they planned to spend this time together.
