Michael Porter Jr. appears to be having a good time on and off the court personally. Despite his impressive numbers in the 2025-26 campaign, his individual performances have not translated into wins for the Brooklyn Nets. Porter Jr. is coming off a poor performance on Thursday night as he recorded just nine points in the Nets’ blowout loss to the Orlando Magic at the Kia Center.

It has been a difficult year for the Nets as the loss extended their losing streak to three games. Their record dropped to 13-37 as they sit at 14th place in the Eastern Conference standings. Meanwhile, the Magic improved to 26-24 and remains in contention for a direct playoff qualification.

Michael Porter Jr. was in the headlines not so long ago for his rumored relationship with American rapper Ice Spice. The 27-year-old has his own podcast show called “Curious Mike” and has been in the headlines for some controversial takes in the past.

Drafted by the Denver Nuggets as the 14th pick in the 2018 NBA draft. He spent six seasons with them and won the NBA Championship in 2023 before being traded to the Nets in the 2025 offseason.

The Nets forward recalled an incident during his appearance on the Old Man and the Three podcast hosted by Cam Johnson. He thought he was going to be kicked out of the league after accidentally leaking NBA Commissioner Adam Silver’s phone number on Snapchat.

That was one of the most shameful and embarrassing moments of my life. I had to get up on stage and apologize to (Adam Silver). I thought I was getting kicked out of the NBA, honestly.

Porter Jr. was not even aware of what he had done. The gravity of the situation became apparent when the forward saw his Snapchat post garnering a significant number of screenshots within minutes. He was summoned to a private meeting with Silver and apologized for his actions. Fortunately, he did not face any consequences for his actions.

Michael Porter Jr. thought Mason Plumlee was better than Nikola Jokic

Over the last six years, Nikola Jokic has been in a league of his own. He has won three MVP awards and helped the Nuggets win their first-ever championship in 2023, to go along with his Finals MVP. The Serb was the frontrunner for another MVP this season before an injury ruled him out for a few weeks.

Porter Jr. spent six years with Jokic during his time with the Nuggets. He admitted that he did not follow the NBA closely when he was drafted in 2018. Hence, at first, he thought Mason Plumlee was better than Joker.

I didn’t think he was that good at first, I thought Mason Plumlee was better than Joker at first. But I kept hearing, like Monte Morris told me, he was like, ‘Man you don’t understand, Joker could score 50 every single night if he wanted to.’ And so I didn’t see it at first in training, I think he was just, you know Joker he can just pass and he doesn’t have to try to dominate all the time.

However, when the regular season began, Porter Jr. realized how good Jokic was and was surprised. He witnessed firsthand how the center controlled the entire floor with his passing and basketball IQ.

Michael Porter Jr. snubbed from NBA 2026 All-Star game

Considering his impressive numbers this campaign, Porter Jr. would have been optimistic about earning his maiden All-Star selection. But unfortunately, he missed out even in the reserves. The reserves for the East are Donovan Mitchell, Jalen Johnson, Karl-Anthony Towns, Pascal Siakam, Norman Powell, Scottie Barnes, and Jalen Duren.

The surprising pick was Siakam. The Indiana Pacers forward is averaging 23.8 points, 6.9 rebounds and four assists this season and his team are at the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings with a 13-38 record. Hence, it was a surprise to many that Siakam was getting the nod over Porter Jr.

Since joining the Nets, Porter Jr. has been able to display his skillset on the offensive end and is currently averaging a career-high 25.1 points, 7.2 rebounds and 3.2 assists this season. Based on fan voting, it seemed the Nets would send Porter Jr. to the All-Star Weekend, but the Eastern Conference head coaches felt other players were more deserving of the honor.
