Adelaide International 2021: Iga Swiatek crushes Belinda Bencic to win her second WTA Title
Iga Swiatek overcame a lackluster Belinda Bencic to win the WTA Adelaide International 2021 in straight sets , 6-2 6-2. This is Swiatek’s second WTA Title. The first one of course was the French Open in 2020. This title will no doubt silence a lot of critics who might have thought Swiatek’s French Open win was a flash in the pan.
The match itself was a one sided one, and did not live up to the reputation of a Final. Bencic’s serve was broken at will by Swiatek and she never really allowed Bencic a way back into the match.
The misfiring Bencic didn’t really help her cause by playing sloppily and serving up eight double faults. This is Bencic’s seventh loss in a final in eleven final appearances.
This win will give Iga Swiatek a lot of confidence
Swiatek won the Adelaide International without dropping a single set during the course of the tournament. Five matches won in five days will give Iga Swiatek a lot of confidence. In her own words, it showed her that she could last a whole week and still keep winning. Also it also showed her that she can do it more than once. She had previously lasted two weeks to win the French Open in 2020.
Swiatek said, “It’s good for me b/c I can see that I can play good tennis for the whole week. It wasn’t [just] one time during the French Open.”
She continued, “ It gives me more confidence that I’m a more developed player and I can play good more often. I’m really happy about that.”
