The Los Angeles Rams WR Puka Nacua and controversial Twitch personality Adin Ross are still friends. The streamer, who became popular through his collaboration with NBA 2K, recently revealed that he and Nacua have talked recently.

In a stream, Ross claimed that he texted Nacua just a day back when a user pressed him and claimed that his behavior had led Nacua to block him on Twitter and Instagram.

Ross and Nacua were in headlines just a week back when the former showed a touchdown celebration dance to the wideout. The wideout and streamer broke out into a move that represented a stereotype of a greedy Jewish moneylender.

The highly antisemitic action was widely called out by the sports industry and beyond. The incident gained further attention due to its timing. The livestream occurred shortly after a deadly attack at a Hanukkah celebration in Bondi Beach, Australia, that left 15 people dead.

Republican Congressman Eric Swalwell quoted that the wideout’s actions were highly inappropriate, especially with the Jewish community shaken after the Bondi Beach incident. He even asked for accountability, either Nacua apologising to the community or the Rams dropping him from the team. Meanwhile, Joe Budden criticised Nacua for associating with Adin Ross, claiming that Ross belongs to a clique of white r*cist guys.

In light of his actions, Puka Nacua, who had one of the most horrendous weeks in his life, issued a statement citing unawareness and apologised to the fans and the community. On the other hand, Ross defended his actions, stating that as a Jew, he can crack stereotypical jokes related to his community. He would cover the fine and accept responsibility for the incident. He even made a pointed jab at Budden.

Dave Portnoy blasted Adin Ross and blamed the streamer for putting Puka Nacua up to it

Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy sharply criticised Adin Ross for his role in the recent antisemitism controversy, calling Ross’s actions irresponsible and attention-seeking.

Ross later shared screenshots of heated text messages with Portnoy, revealing the extent of his anger over the situation. In the messages, Portnoy questioned Ross as to why he put Nacua up to it, considering he was Jewish himself. He called Nacua a pretender. In leaked messages, Portnoy referenced the attack while accusing Ross of downplaying the seriousness of the situation.

You’re a Jew who wants the cool kids to seem like he’s a cool Jew… If you don’t think there is a difference between how Jews are being treated in the world vs 2 years ago you’re an idiot.

Ross was seen stating that Jews should stop playing victim and bring comedic light to things to reduce antisemitic sentiments.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Portnoy accused Ross of knowingly placing Nacua in a position that would spark backlash.

I thought the way he set up Puka Nacua by telling him to do that dance was a total a**hole move. Anybody with a brain knew it would cause a controversy. For what? So Adin could get a couple clicks?

Portnoy continued by saying he was genuinely baffled by the situation, noting that he had previously had personal conversations with Ross and his family about their Jewish heritage.

He said he was especially surprised by Ross’ actions, explaining that both Ross and his father had privately thanked him in the past for speaking out against antisemitism. Portnoy has been increasingly vocal about antisemitism in recent months, citing personal experiences with harassment and slurs.
