Following the conclusion of the golf season last year, the PGA Tour saw some of its stars leave them for rival tour LIV Golf. One of them was Polish golfer Adrian Meronk who jumped ships after being snubbed off the Ryder Cup. He has now called out the tour as a “lonely place“.
Before the Ryder Cup in 2023, Meronk was considered one of the favorites to be picked by captain Luke Donald. However, Ludvig Aberg‘s strong performances saw him being picked ahead of Meronk. Earlier this year, the 31-year-old golfer unveiled how this snub had an impact on his decision to leave the tour.
Nine months later, Meronk backed his decision and called out the PGA Tour. As per John Huggan of Golf Digest, Meronk admitted that financial reasons played a huge part in his decision. He though seemed happy to have the support of people on LIV Golf.
This was something Meronk even said while speaking with Gulf News recently. He revealed having a conversation with fellow professional Nicolas Colsaerts who gave him a ‘scare‘ regarding the full schedule of the tour. During this conversation, the golfer stated that he would have been “lonely and miserable” on the tour.
Adrian Meronk suggests having a worldwide tour without the United States
During his interview with Golf Digest, Adrian Meronk suggested a bold idea. The golfer proposed having a worldwide tour of golf everywhere except the United States.
While suggesting this, Meronk even took a dig at the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR) and claimed it made “no sense” for them to not receive it. LIV Golf does not receive these ranking points which leads to a drop in the rank of several of its stars.

This idea of Meronk has since received strong criticism on social media. Golf insider Christopher Powers would later call him out on X and wrote, “This dude absolutely hates America“.

This idea from Meronk comes at a time when the PGA Tour and the PIF, the body that backs LIV Golf, continue to find ways to finalize the merger deal which was announced in June 2023. With Donald Trump set to become the next president of the US, there is some optimism among golf fans that the deal could be wrapped up quickly, bringing an end to the golf civil war.
