Kylian Mbappe has been France’s savior on several occasions in the past. From Paris Saint-Germain to France and soon at Real Madrid, the prolific and fast-paced striker has been the source of goals for his side for a long time running. However, his goal scoring abilities have significantly been hindered at the 2024 Euros, having scored a single penalty against Poland in the group stages.
France made it to the semi-final of the Euros having scored zero goals from open play. That being said, a masked-up Kylian Mbappe will look to steer his side past tournament favorites Spain, as the two sides lock horns at Allianz Arena. Ahead of the tie, teammate Adrien Rabiot claimed that he has ‘blind faith’ in the superstar!
For Kylian and Antoine, maybe their legs aren't as fresh as they could be. But we're 100% behind them. We have blind faith in them. They can change the course of a match at any given second.Adrien Rabiot said in a press conference
He also added that the team will get behind their star players when they’re going through a rough patch. Mbappe’s teammates did the job against Portugal on a night where the player was barely visible on the pitch.
France coach boldly defends players and style of play at Euros
France have been largely criticized for their ‘unattractive’ and ‘boring’ style of play at the 2024 Euros. The 2018 World Cup winners find themselves in the semi-final of the European Championship, but have managed to do so without scoring a single goal from open play.
Their top scorer is ‘own goals’ with two, followed by Kylian Mbappe, who scored a penalty against Poland. When asked about his team’s unattractive style of play, head coach Didier Deschamps had a bold response.
If you're getting bored, watch another game. It's very difficult for everyone, with fewer goals. We've been trying hard to make the people happy with results in a tough period. But if the Swedish are getting bored, it doesn't bother me much.Didier Deschamps said in a press conference
Several fans on social media are asking for Spain to eliminate France from the Euros to avoid seeing an England vs France final. The Three Lions have also struggled to play free-flowing football, with late goals and penalty shootouts required to progress on multiple occasions.
