AEW wrestler Chris Jericho was arguably the first major signing for the Jacksonville-based promotion. Jericho was the biggest superstar at the time, in terms of popularity and star power. So much so that he was crowned as their inaugural AEW World Champion. In a recent press conference, the 53-year-old spoke about a wild conspiracy regarding his championship reign.
Following an impressive win at the Full Gear pay-per-view, Chris Jericho sat down with AEW President Tony Khan at the post-show media scrum. While in conversation, Y2J mockingly claimed he could have stopped the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 if he had been the champion back then. The 53-year-old sarcastically implied that putting the title on Jon Moxley was the cause of the pandemic.
Jericho defended his AEW Championship against Jon Moxley at the inaugural AEW Revolution in February 2020. The latter went on to win the prestigious gold, ending the former’s reign at 249 days. Since Moxley defeated him at the aforementioned pay-per-view, the AEW veteran sarcastically suggested that the pandemic began two weeks after Moxley won the title.
That's when I lost the AEW title and two weeks later, worldwide pandemic. Coincidence? I think not. You should have kept the title on me.Chris Jericho at AEW Full Gear media scrum
Moreover, Chris Jericho teamed up with Kenny Omega to take on the Young Bucks at Full Gear 2023. The former duo eventually clinched the victory to become the No. 1 contenders for the AEW World Tag Team Championship. It remains to be seen whether Jericho and Omega manage to become tag team champions or the rivalry with the Young Bucks will continue going forward.
Chris Jericho required several stitches after a brutal spot at Full Gear
Chris Jericho has repeatedly demonstrated that his age is not a hindrance to his wrestling career, at least for now. From his splendid clash against Will Ospreay to a brutal tag team bout at Full Gear, Jericho has shown that he still has a lot left in his tank. In the recent tag team action against the Young Bucks, the Ocho apparently required ten stitches after a nasty spot.
After weeks of back-and-forth and cheap shots, the Young Bucks squared off against the Golden Jets (Omega and Jericho) earlier this week on Sunday. Both teams put forth their best efforts to get the better of one another. The tandem of Nick and Matt Jackson even unsuccessfully resorted to low blows to steal the victory. However, the newly formed duo of Omega and Jericho triumphed over the Bucks after the former delivered an effective One-Winged Angel.

During the post-show press conference, a reporter asked if he had injured his right arm. Responding to the media, Jericho revealed that he got over ten stitches after a steel stair spot during the match. However, the 53-year-old maintained that it was nothing serious. After his tremendous victory at Full Gear, Chris Jericho, along with his new teammate Kenny Omega, will challenge Ricky Starks and Big Bill for the AEW World Tag Team Championship.
