CM Punk‘s fans were disheartened over the news of his AEW release. Of course, the iron was hot considering what transpired backstage at All In. Tony Khan showed immense courage to publicly announce Phil Brooks’ official termination from the company. That being said, the drama has just started to take off. Punk’s exemption is believed to be the tip of the iceberg, with major blows still to come.

A new update on the Punk/AEW situation suggests that things are bound to get ugly real quick. According to Sports Illustrated, the Second City Saint is expected to come up with his side of things. Sources close to the situation believe that CM Punk’s inevitable response has the potential to be explosive. As of writing, the 44-year-old has yet to issue any kind of statement following his release last night.

Moreover, Punk’s physical altercation with Jack Perry wasn’t the sole cause of his unprecedented release. In fact, SI also noted that CM Punk lunging at Tony Khan, once the latter tried to intervene in the matter, added to the woes. As mentioned during his public address before the AEW collision last night, Khan felt that the regrettable incident at All In forged his life into danger.

Punk’s aggressive behavior was deemed unacceptable by a disciplinary committee, following which Tony Khan made the tough call. The unanimous nature of the legal advisory indicated that Punk’s release would be the only right call that could serve justice to the innocent employees in AEW. Notably, figures that had nothing to do with the incident felt unsafe, and hence, the Jacksonville Jaguars owner had to do the Augean Stables.

After the conclusion of last night’s AEW collision in Chicago, Matt Jackson, one half of The Young Bucks, did a victory lap. Of course, it goes without saying for whom the gesture was. The unrivaled beef circling Punk and The Elite was never quite settled. In fact, the latter were not even on speaking terms with The Best in the World. Notably, a sit-down meeting was scheduled between the two parties.

However, it was quickly taken off the table. Needless to say, the flagrant animosity between the said figures totally derailed what could’ve been a run to remember for CM Punk and his followers. However, the magnitude of that backstage struggle after last year’s All Out media scrum was just too gigantic. With Punk no longer in the mix, The Elite would find themselves in a better place.
