The former EVP of AEW, Cody Rhodes, is the biggest babyface in WWE right now. The American Nightmare shifted gears in 2022 and made his way to his former promotion to finish his story. However, his contribution in establishing the Jacksonville-based promotion is note-worthy as he indirectly boosted the talent present on the independent scene. One of such superstars is Darby Allin, who recently mentioned Cody in his promo on Dynamite and feels grateful for having his support back in the day.
While speaking with Digital Spy, Allin stated that Rhodes is the reason why he is in AEW. Darby recalled his debut dating back to Fyter Fest, where he wrestled Cody in a 20-minute Broadway draw. For Rhodes to take a chance on an unknown 26-year-old Allin, who did not have his break on an independent scene, was respectful. Thus, he felt the need to pay homage to The American Nightmare, who brought him here.

The AEW World Tag Team Champion claimed that he was not part of the California Crew and had to beg people for jobs. He had to sit back and watch the press conferences with people who had no business with them. While deep inside him, Allin knew his capability when given the perfect opportunity. Fast forward to half a decade later, and he is at the top of AEW with gold around his waist alongside Sting!
For him (Cody Rhodes) to take a chance on me that early... I was relatively super unknown still; I was never really the guy on the independent scene. He did that. You've got to give respect where respect is due. I feel very strongly on paying homage to how I got here because I never thought I was going to get here.Darby Allin pays respect to Cody Rhodes
All this elaboration happened with Digital Spy, but Dynamite had a limited gist of it. Allin came to the aid of Tony Schiavone when The Young Bucks were about to attack him with superkicks. That’s when he mentioned that the Jackson brothers have deviated from AEW’s mission to change the world. He recalled that unlike the three other EVPs (The Elite), only Rhodes had the sense to have Allin on AEW.
Darby Allin reveals his two goals in AEW
The fearless Darby Allin has been with AEW since its inception. The risk-taking maneuver has been impressive and grabs the attention of many fans. His career so far has seen him win the TNT Championship twice, and the AEW World Tag Team Championship very recently with Sting.

While speaking with Denise Salcedo, Allin revealed his other professional goals that would make him reach the top. Darby believes that his next logical step would be winning the AEW World Championship. He showed his will to be the face of the company by doing so.
So to be the face of a company, I believe you have to be World Champion, so that is the next logical step. Wrestling-wise, before this man's career is done: Danielson. That's the next thing.Darby Allin reveals his AEW goals
Apart from the title scenario, Allin wants to face The American Dragon, Bryan Danielson. He mentioned that Bryan’s work ethic is the reason why he wishes for a competition. The 31-year-old mentioned how Danielson’s career ended, but his comeback was electrifying, which made him even better.
