In recent years, a wave of WWE superstars have made the bold leap to AEW in search of new opportunities and greater creative freedom. Famous names like Adam Cole, Jon Moxley, and Bryan Danielson have already found success in All Elite Wrestling, showcasing their talents in fresh and exciting ways. Now, another seasoned competitor is said to be eyeing the move – Shelton Benjamin, a highly underrated former Intercontinental Champion.

According to a recent report from Fightful, it appears that discussions between AEW and Shelton Benjamin have indeed taken place. Both parties are reportedly exploring the possibility of former Intercontinental Champion joining the AEW roster, which has sparked considerable excitement among fans and pundits alike.

Shelton Benjamin’s potential move to AEW comes after his release from WWE last year. Before leaving, the former WWE superstar was in a tag team with Cedric Alexander and it was anticipated that they were involved in a story to rebuild the Hurt Business faction.

Benjamin, a seasoned veteran in the world of professional wrestling, has reached a milestone in 2022, 20 years since he first entered the industry. He won numerous titles, including one United States Championship, three Intercontinental Championships, and three Tag Team Championships.

Shelton Benjamin’s career outside the WWE

Shelton Benjamin, best known for his time in WWE and his numerous accolades there has also significantly contributed to the independent wrestling scene. He has showcased his talents in promotions such as Ring of Honor (ROH), New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW), and Pro Wrestling Noah.

In Ring of Honor (ROH), Benjamin reunited with his former partner, Charlie Haas. They spent three years together in the promotion and were very successful during that time. The former WWE tag team champion captured the ROH Tag Team Championship.

During his time in New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW), Benjamin was very effective, showcasing his skills against some of the top talent in the promotion. The former Intercontinental Champion joined the famous Suzuki-gun faction. His time in NJPW saw him participate in notable matches, defeating Kazuchika Okada and Shinsuke Nakamura in tag team matches, and showing his ability to compete at the highest level. The former WWE superstar also had the honor of participating in the prestigious G1 Climax tournament.
