Without a doubt, The Boss’ acquisition is one of the biggest signings of the company’s run so far. Mercedes Mone’s in-ring talent and charisma will bolster the women’s division, which has been notably improving on-screen. Moreover, she will possibly target the AEW Women’s Championship straightaway in her run.

In fact, it won’t be a shock to see her claim the title instantly. Mercedes’ last bout came against Willow Nightingale at NJPW’s Resurgence, during which she suffered an injury. Now, fans are eagerly anticipating the in-ring return of Mone. It will be interesting to see how the former WWE star’s run in the rival promotion plays out.

How Mercedes Mone’s AEW signing came around

The past couple of months saw the two major promotions in wrestling, AEW and WWE, in a bidding war to sign Mercedes Mone. After her All In appearance, many reputable sources claimed she was headed to the Tony Khan-led promotion. However, talks between both parties stopped abruptly in December. Afterwards, there was speculation that she might return to WWE after walking out in 2022.

At one point, it looked like a done deal, as Mone would post subtle hints online. Later, new reports suggested that WWE and Mercedes were “far apart” in terms of money and that the company expected to see her sign with another promotion imminently.

The former Women’s Champion seemingly asked for a contract that paid her more than Charlotte Flair. The latter had recently signed a contract that made her the highest-paid woman in WWE history. Now, The Boss is AEW-bound and will be on television by March. Therefore, fans can expect to see Mercedes Mone competing in the ring at the upcoming pay-per-view, Revolution.
