Mercedes Mone has been the talk of the town for the past couple of months. Since her injury in May 2023, fans have awaited the in-ring return of the 32-year-old. However, the status of one of the best female wrestlers was still up in the air, with both AEW and WWE pushing hard to sign her. Recently, reports suggested that Mone was headed to the Jacksonville-based promotion. As such, new details have emerged regarding her signing.

According to Fightful Select, Mercedes Mone is not only close to debuting but has been on AEW’s payroll for a while. Later, the former Women’s Champion posted a message on her X account as her arrival at the company drew closer. Interestingly, Mone wrote the lyrics of her WWE theme song, “Sky’s The Limit” seemingly continuing to sway the audience.

I remember when couldn't pay the rent
Now I own the whole building that I'm living in
Sky's the limit when you're never giving in
You get in, you ride it out
And don't look back again

Despite the rumors heavily hinting towards an AEW run, Mercedes has posted similar subtle teases online. While there were talks with WWE in December, Fightful reported on December 30 that they stopped. According to sources, negotiations fell apart due to differences in salary demands. Moreover, Mone supposedly wanted to become the highest-paid woman in the Stamford-based promotion.

As a result, WWE expected The Boss to show elsewhere imminently. Afterwards, Mercedes Mone signing with AEW looked like an inevitability. Therefore, fans are anticipating her debut, which is most likely set to take place on the March 13 edition of Dynamite.

Details on Mercedes Mone’s status with NJPW/Stardom

While The Boss is likely headed to AEW, fans are speculating on Mercedes Mone’s status with NJPW and Stardom. After all, she started her first venture after leaving WWE in Japan. Fightful Select claim that NJPW sources expect to have the ability to work with the former IWGP Women’s Champion in some capacity.

In fact, this scenario cannot be ruled out given AEW and NJPW’s working relationship. Mercedes made her debut at last year’s Wrestle Kingdom, confronting Kairi Sane. A month later, she defeated her to claim the IWGP Women’s Title. Mone held the championship for 64 days, losing it to Mayu Iwatani at Stardom All Star Grand Queendom.

It will be interesting to see how the 32-year-old’s AEW run plays out. Mercedes Mone will compete in-ring action at the upcoming pay-per-view, Revolution. Also, the promotion has planned a CM Punk-esque homecoming for the former WWE star.
