“My hip is a mess,” MJF admits his title reign getting stale while teasing he hasn’t renewed his AEW contract
MJF has opened up on a lot of prevailing anomalies in AEW.

Ahead of tonight’s title defense against Samoa Joe, AEW World Champion MJF jettisoned many things off his chest. Becoming the voice of his fans, the 27-year-old first admitted that his title reign may have lost its luster. In a long, self-written note on The Players Tribune, Max blurred the lines between kayfabe and reality. He bashed some creeps, had his say on the unbridled genocide around the Red Sea, and disclosed his physical well-being.
The Salt of the Earth revealed that he has a badly messed-up backside. Moreover, he hasn’t been able to lift his arm above his head, which has relegated him to consuming painkillers. Think of the worst possible things that could happen to a guy who’s about to put his title on the line, and it’s happening with MJF.
He continued saying that he knows it’s not only him who’s tired of all this stuff, evincing that AEW hasn’t put up a formidable on-screen product of late, which includes MJF’s babyface run. Tonight at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, Friedman would step in with a sense of trepidation.
I'm tired. My hip is a mess. My arm won't lift above my head. I'm on painkillers, which are not my thing. I know it's not only me who's tired. I know our fans are a little tired of this run I've been on.MJF via The Players Tribune
If his words are to be believed, The Devil has not signed a new contract with AEW at this point. And if that’s the case, he’d become a free agent on January 1, 2024. However, some reports state that he’s already extended his deal with Tony Khan.
What message does MJF have for fans recklessly hating on AEW?
In the same piece as above, MJF also addressed the amplifying loathe among fans towards AEW. However, if anyone’s actively spreading hate for a company that makes a living for hundreds of employees, MJF called those fans the worst.
Amanda Huber, wife of the late Brodie Lee, also jumped to endow her support for MJF. The Tony Khan-owned promotion turns 5 this New Year, and it would be an achievement for everyone who’s been involved in expanding All Elite Wrestling from day one.
So while I welcome anyone being critical of AEW (God knows I am)..... if you’re actually actively rooting against us? Against us EXISTING? Guess what, you’re the f*cking worst. You’re rooting against workers.MJF via The Players Tribune
Although there were rumors that Maxwell would prefer jumping ship to WWE once his AEW contract dies, which is still an apple of discord, he recently stated he wants to stay with them. Only time will tell which way the 27-year-old sways.
