Just when everyone thought that MJF was finally changing for good courtesy of his budding soulmate, Adam Cole, the cataclysm had to happen. As previously reported by Fightful, Cole suffered an unfortunate knee injury at AEW Grand Slam during the main event featuring MJF vs. Samoa Joe for the AEW Championship. While coming out to encourage his buddy MJF, Adam Cole tripped his leg while jumping off the ramp.
That misque was enough to hand him a gnarly setback. He was rushed to the hospital and was on crutches after getting discharged. Giving an update on the current status of that wound, Adam Cole revealed on Twitch that he’s bound to undergo a couple of surgeries on his knee. That would also see the insertion of four screws and a plate as part of the treatment.
The former WWE Superstar also added that it is the most painful injury he’s had in his career and would take a significant amount of time to heal up. In a nutshell, the ongoing Summer of Bromance between MJF and Adam Cole, which imbued AEW with a new dose of upsurge, would not be able to continue.
As a result, MJF, who is also one-half of the ROH tag team champion with Cole, defended the gold at WrestleDream all on his own. It’s not clear up to which point he’ll continue putting those tag titles on the line, especially now that he’s a man short in Adam Cole.
MJF will have a massive title defense at AEW Full Gear pay-per-view
This week on AEW Dynamite, the Golden Bullet Club called out MJF to confront them. After dishing out some disrespect for The Devil, the champ finally showed up. MJF went on to mention some of the horrible things he’s done in his life, including calling Tony Khan a ‘f***ing mark’ on national television.
He assured them to go a step further and replicate those things for the trio standing in that ring. As soon as the people’s scumbag entered the squared circle, the Golden Bullet Club took a step back. However, they had a plan as Jay White came out of nowhere to attack MJF.
The Switchblade even took away the AEW Championship with himself, and now it’s official that MJF and White will battle at AEW Full Gear on November 19 for the gold. It would be the first major opportunity for Jay White to taste championship success in AEW.
