The Icon Sting has been performing in the squared circle for more than three decades. The Stinger kicked off his career in Memphis as he wrestled on an independent circuit. He is currently a part of the AEW roster and wrestles at his peak at the age of 64. On the latest episode of AEW Dynamite, Sting dropped a bombshell by announcing his retirement in the next year’s Revolution pay-per-view.
The segment of Sting’s address to the crowd in Texas was advertised earlier and was highly rumored around retirement. The same happened when the 64-year-old was introduced by Tony Schiavone this week on the show. The pro wrestling icon started by addressing the rumors and asked, “Well, should I say the word (retirement)!?” and paused for a bit to reflect on his lustrous pro wrestling career with legendary matches.
Stinger recalled traveling the globe with Lex Luger, Buff Bagwell, Rick Steiner and Scott Steiner. He then spoke about those people who shaped his career and the ones who he looked up to. Sting mentioned Dusty Rhodes, Hulk Hogan and especially The Nature Boy Ric Flair. Following that, The Icon stated that he would hang up his boots at AEW Revolution 2024, marking his three-year stint in AEW when he made his in-ring debut at Revolution 2021.
Previously, Sting commented on this topic, saying, “Nothing’s for sure!” However, this time he made up his mind, as he said, “My retirement at Revolution 2024 is, For Sure!” The Rosenberg crowd chanted, “Thank you Sting!” and “You still got it!” quotes but still had to swallow the hard pill. The segment ended with a fan poster saying, ‘Icons are Forever’ and the crowd making a hands-down gesture for Stinger.

Lookback at the illustrious career of Sting
An avid wrestling fan cannot specify the age of Sting once they see him perform in the ring. The 64-year-old legend still performs at his peak in the wrestling ring. Having started his career in 1985, Stinger gained stardom during his quintessential stint in WCW from 1987 to 2001 until the promotion’s end.
He competed with the likes of Goldberg, Ric Flair, and the Steiner brothers, delivering some classic ones. However, he did not join WWE and instead chose a path to elevate TNA, bringing eyeballs in 2003. His stint continued until 2013 and later saw his surprise debut in WWE for the first time in his twenty years of wrestling.
He brought The Authority to their feet and wrestled a match with Triple H at WrestleMania 31. The Icon’s initial stint didn’t last long, but the Hall of Fame Class of 2016 inducted him, marking his retirement. However, in 2020, he made a surprising return to in-ring action at AEW Revolution 2021.
