Being in his mid-70s isn’t helping Ric Flair slow down. When Tony Khan brought in him last month, the fans rebuffed the move. Letting the bygones be bygones, The Nature Boy was steadily cementing himself as a pivotal figure for the AEW roster. But for someone as notorious as Ric, it was just a matter of time before he fell into deep waters.

Having said that, the 74-year-old is getting lambasted for cutting a highly polarizing promo during this week’s AEW Rampage tapings. The 2-time WWE HOF’er invited girls aged 18–28 who don’t have a boyfriend or a husband to his hotel room. Infuriated by the disgusting line, a plethora of AEW fans have been yearning for the ousting of Ric Flair from the company.

For what it’s worth, The Nature Boy seems downtrodden by the uproar of fans. Amidst the unanimous call to axe him from AEW, Flair took to X and addressed the entire situation. He affirmed that he was not doing this run for money or anything but for his long-term ally, Sting. And if it does hamper AEW’s growth as a whole, Ric even offered to quit the company.

The question is, why did the 16-time World Champion make such disparaging remarks? For an old-school wrestling fan who’s followed Ric since his heyday, his latest claims aren’t shocking, to say the least. Flair has dropped similar bombs on television since the tigers used to smoke.

However, this isn’t the good ol’ 1980s. Ric has to be held accountable for every ounce of energy he spends while unleashing his old self in front of the finicky votaries of the game.

Steve Austin and Chris Jericho stand up for Ric Flair

Ric Flair’s latest promo, which has yet to air, has fans upset. If the tirade goes on as usual, Tony Khan might have to step in and truncate the aforementioned lines before it makes to national television.

Moreover, names like ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin and Chris Jericho have jumped in to support The Dirtiest Player in the Game. Jericho asked Flair to look past the online trolls and continue what he’s been doing, and Austin too pretty much said the same.

It remains to be seen whether Ric Flair will be able to walk Sting into the shadows of retirement when The Icon steps into the ring for the last time at AEW Revolution next year. It will emanate from the iconic Greensboro Coliseum.
