The AEW women’s division has become a more prominent feature on television over the past few weeks. Recently, the locker room has begun a trend online, calling out the stereotypical struggles that female wrestlers have to endure. After the well-received first part, Saraya and her co-workers continued to express their opinions in a newly released second part.
First, Mariah May hilariously trolled men who believed they could wrestle female stars. Meanwhile, the likes of Skye Blue and Anna Jay vented out their frustration at women wrestlers being constantly sexualized and harassed by fans. Also, Karen Jarrett explicitly claimed that she could take on anyone in the division despite not being a professional wrestler.

Needless to say, videos such as these shed light on the day-to-day issues female superstars come across. Many fans showered the AEW women’s division with praise for openly calling out and mentioning the stereotypical behavior of a select section of the audience.
As of late, the usually scrutinized booking of the female stars on the AEW roster has improved. There are now more storyline-focused matches and an increase in television time. Furthermore, with the arrival of Deonna Purrazzo and more possible signings, fans can be excited for the women’s division in the Jacksonville-based promotion.
Will Mercedes Mone’s possible signing bolster the AEW women’s division?
Mercedes Mone has been at the center of headlines lately. The formerly known Sasha Banks is arguably the hottest free agent in wrestling. After talks with WWE reportedly ended, the rumor mill has suggested that the 31-year-old might be headed to AEW. Obviously, the possibility of Mone joining the Jacksonville-based promotion may give the women’s division the boost required.

During the Worlds End media scrum, Tony Khan revealed that he would be ‘active’ in the free agent market. As a result, many are under the assumption that the owner is willing to give the best offer possible to Mone. Moreover, Tony seems motivated to fix one of the constant criticisms of his company, the booking of female talent.
After an underwhelming 2023, AEW will definitely look to replicate the success of the 2021–22 era. The recent off-screen changes are proof of the promotion moving forward as well. Whether or not Mone joins AEW, fans will be intrigued by what lies ahead in the new year.
