Lately, many wrestling promotions have started organizing press conferences. ROH (Ring of Honor) also organized the ROH Final Battle Media Scrum on 16th December 2023. During his talk, AEW CEO Tony Khan made some interesting remarks about the absence of Kenny Omega and how dejected he feels with him being away from the programming.
Khan talked about the influence that Omega had on AEW since its inception. He expressed his contentment about how the former AEW Champion is receiving the necessary attention at the right time. Further, he cleared how he won’t be providing any updates on his behalf and would leave it to Omega to clear the air about his health status by himself.
I don’t think we knew how sick he was or nobody would have wanted him to…to be honest, I’ll leave it to him to get updates because he’s already been communicating and it’s his health and I don’t want to speak for him.Tony Khan on Kenny Omega
Additionally, Khan assured the media of having received some optimistic updates and has asked everyone to keep him in his prayers. For those who don’t know, Omega has been suffering from Diverticulitis and has informed the wrestling community of remaining absent indefinitely. Wrestling fans, since then, have kept Omega in their prayers.
Update on the illness of Kenny Omega
In his Instagram post on 14th December 2023, Kenny Omega declared himself going out on an indefinite hiatus. In a recent post by Fightful Select, further details have been added to Omega’s diagnosis. The report suggests Omega has been unwell since his match against Ethan Page on AEW Collision on 9th December 2023. However, Omega chose to keep these details “close to his vest.”
Later, he would also appear at AEW Dynamite on 13th December 2023, alongside Chris Jericho, Ricky Starks, and Big Bill. There was a backstage concern about him looking unwell, yet he pushed his way until he consulted the doctors. They diagnosed him with diverticulitis and have admitted him since then. As spoken by Khan, Omega has remained in constant touch and has provided some optimistic updates.
Wrestling and MMA Fans have already seen similar cases in the past. The most famous one was the troubles that Brock Lesnar faced. It eventually led to his retirement from UFC back in 2011. People across the promotions like Cody Rhodes pray for his health. Time will tell how things will turn out to be for the Belt Collector.
