It appears as though CM Punk might not have a successful second run in AEW, based on the latest developments. After being a part of the notorious Brawl Out 2022, the former AEW Champion is once again in the news. This time, a backstage altercation took place before his match, where he faced Samoa Joe in the opening match of the night.
It was reported at the beginning of the night that Jack Perry and Punk had a face-off backstage. This was due to the comments made by Perry in front of the camera during his match. It was reported by Sean Ross Sapp from Fightful Select that Punk bumped Jack Perry on his way to his match.
In the media scrum, Tony Khan started talking to the journalists by basically confirming Sapp’s report. Khan said, “I can’t comment on it at this time beyond what I’m about to say. Yes, there was an incident backstage before we went live on tonight’s show. We are investigating it, and until I learn more about what happened, I can’t comment on it at this time, but I did want to be honest with you and tell you that that is the case,”
Since the investigation is on-going according to Khan, he did not provide any names. Therefore, fans will have to wait and see how the story unravels as this is the second time that CM Punk has been involved in a similar controversy in the past year.
Jack Perry was ordered to leave the stadium while CM Punk stayed back after the confrontation
New reports have been emerging from various sources about the situation between CM Punk and Jack Perry. This time around, PWInsider is reporting that after the altercation, Jack Perry was ordered to leave the stadium and was not present for the entire show. On the other hand, CM Punk was not told any such thing and therefore stayed backstage for the entire show.
The news about the incident has caught everyone’s attention, as the backstage drama has always been a point of conversation among AEW fans. The last time CM Punk attended a media scrum, he called out the EVPs of AEW and Hangman Adam Page for being unprofessional. This caused a brawl backstage, resulting in a months-long investigation, and all the superstars involved were suspended from AEW for a certain amount of time.
Therefore, fans should hope that Tony Khan soon sorts out the problem with the roster. Regular backstage problems will not help a developing promotion like AEW because if the roster is not efficient, the programming will not be as effective. Fans will have to wait and watch what steps are taken in this direction.
