Despite being around for only four years, AEW has managed to become the second-biggest wrestling promotion. They are now seen as a direct competitor to WWE, which is an accomplishment in itself. However, there are a few places for improvement for the Tony Khan-led company, which can elevate them to a higher level.

Former WWE champion and AEW veteran Matt Hardy weighed in on the topic on his podcast. Tony Khan is the only person who makes the final creative decisions in AEW. Therefore, on the Extreme Life of Matt Hardy podcast, a fan asked Hardy how they resolve disagreements in AEW regarding the creatives of the talent.

The pro wrestling veteran said that he has never had disagreements about his storylines. However, he stated that if other talents are not happy with their creativity, they do not work. According to Matt Hardy, they just disregard Tony Khan’s creative pitches and walk away home, which in turn creates turmoil in the creative aspects.

“Then there’s been times where guys have been home, and, you know, like, if you haven’t seen someone in a while, you say, ‘Oh, well, you know, creative differences, whatever.’ So I guess they’ll kind of hang out and be off TV until they figure out something that they really like,” he said.

Numerous superstars that AEW signed in the past years have been off AEW programming for months. It is reported that they have creative differences and, therefore, are waiting for a better storyline to return to AEW. This does not paint Tony Khan’s booking skills in the best light.

Matt Hardy justified the AEW President, saying that he is learning on the job. Khan does not have a lot of experience dealing with talent. However, in the past year, the promotion went through a lot of backstage issues, which might have helped Tony Khan grow as a booker for AEW.

Matt Hardy thinks what Tony Khan is doing is revolutionary

Despite a few concerns for his boss, Matt Hardy had a lot of praise for Tony Khan. Hardy said that not a lot of people in the world possess the passion that Tony has for professional wrestling. Along with that, Khan also has the resources to start a new company, which is not available to a lot of people.

Hardy said, “I guess you’ve got to be in the right place at the right time, and you have to have the right resources to start a company. He is really like one of a kind, and what he is doing right now is revolutionary.” However, Hardy also pointed out that Khan might be a little too concerned by what the social media says about AEW and the product.

This was evident from the rant that Tony Khan went on last week. The AEW veteran thinks that this might backfire on the Jacksonville-based promotion and is not healthy either. He suggested that Khan should focus only on the “arena fans” and the “paid audience.”
