Evergreen Swiss tennis ace, Roger Federer is all set to return to competitive action in March at the ATP 250 event in Doha, 13 months after playing on the tour at Australian Open 2020.

The 20-time Grand Slam champion ruled himself out of the remainder of the season following his semi-final exit against Novak Djokovic at the Australian Open last year due to his injury for which he had to go undergo 2 surgeries.

Federer even decided to pull out of the Australian Open 2021 at the last minute as he believed he needed more time to reach his desired level of fitness. Although gutted to withdraw from the opening Major he loves playing at the most, Federer wanted to return at a smaller tournament where there will be less stress on him.

“I have been thinking about when and where to come back for a long time. Australia was a touch too early because of my knee. I wanted to make my comeback at a smaller tournament so that I wasn’t fully in focus and where the stress is also a little less,” Federer told SRF Radio.

Coming back after a long recovery period, the Swiss legend will certainly plan his schedule carefully; allowing himself to play with good intensity without exerting much on his knee.

Federer stressed he will try to play in clay but his priority will be being fit and ready for the Wimbledon, the Tokyo Olympics, and the US Open.

“I will try to play on clay again. The whole thing, of course, with regard to Halle, Wimbledon, Olympia and the US Open,” he said.

The greatest ambassador of the sport, Federer is the face of tennis and for the same reason, the sport does not want him gone for a long time. Federer too wishes to play tennis for life as he is preparing himself for the long journey after rehab.

“I want to celebrate great victories again. And for that I am ready to go the long, hard road,” Federer said.
